All vehicles have design shortcomings (sometimes deliberately) and are evolved by OEM's over their design life. The Freelander 2 from my perspective has more than its fair share, given its new purchase price. I own a '07 XS.

When the current Focus was launched back in 2004 I worked in a Ford dealership, I said straight away that it was launched in sub-standard form to allow for mid-life updates.

The FL2s diesel engine is used by several other manufacturers - what oil do they specify? |

Press the odo reset button and it will show you mileage and trip
insert seat belt 10 times whilst ignition is on but engine not started (i dont know of any cars that can do this!!)
Why would you want too unless fitting a towbar in which case this is catered for? At least you have a button to turn it on / off at low speed manoeuvres
This is just a styling thing and as said you can get them as an aftermarket thing. I prefer the doors without bump strips, cars with them in my mind look dated
They are plastic so you dont ruin your paint when going off road. Looked after properly they will stay as black as you bought them... Just like paint, it will get damaged by UV if not looked after.
In my experience these are just a pain in the anyway.
I can read it! How big do you need it?
At least you know to service it every year unlike condition based servicing like on a bimmer where you could end up taking it in 4 times a year for oil, then a filter, then brake fluid and then sparks etc
I guess this is in the eye of the beholder. designed i guess to come off without damaging the body and can e made to fit better if put in some boiling water or moulded with a hair dryer.. As for the oil thing, I agree that we should be using the best oil but given LR have taken the sensible approach of annual servicing anyway I think this is a lesser problem. What would you rather a car with conditional based servicing but good oil that could go 2 years without an oil change or a car wither a lesser grade oil but guarantee a change every year? I guess the longevity of the engine should tell us if it is the right thing or not and given people on here are well into 100k miles i'm thinking it might be ok? I think Toad has made some valid points in this post but needs to keep things in perspective and there have been some very valid responses as well.
