2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Firenze Red
Strange rubbing noise in 1st & 2nd Gear ( Update )

2007 XS Manual

Shes done 87000 Miles now
When i pull away in1st Gear there is a rubbing noise from what sounds like passenger front wheel
change into 2nd and its louder
Noise dissapears when i 3rd 4th etc
i did knock that wheel a week ago but today id the 1st time i have heard it
Going in one Thursday to replace front discs so will ask them to check for any rubbing
i Think it may be a clutch problem as its only in 1st & 2nd
New Discs fitted today and they seem to think its a Gearbox problem
the Noise is now there in 1st 2nd 5th and 6th Gears
but only from front passenger side so looking for somewhere to book it into

Any ideas anyone Freelander TD4 XS Zermatt Silver Sept 07. twin elec. LR tow bar, mudflaps.

Ain't the clutch if it's only in 2 gears mate.
Need more info, could be a bearing, bent strut etc, depending on how hard you kerbed it. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Re: Strange rubbing noise in 1st & 2nd Gear

I would hope its not the Clutch

I Kerbed it last week it was either that or there would be one less Golf GTI driver on the road
It scratched the alloy badly and shred the tyre and thanks to Guys on this Forum i know have 2 new Alloys
These are being fitted Thursday when the Front Discs are changed
This happened a week ago and have only heard the Noise this evening on the way home from work
Should i get them to check Oil in GearBox while its on the ramp
I will ask them to check Bearings and struts as well Freelander TD4 XS Zermatt Silver Sept 07. twin elec. LR tow bar, mudflaps.

2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Firenze Red

Just had the Car back from the Garage

Not A Landrover Stealer i shoud add

My first impression were not good when they Called my Mobile Mid Morning
saying they could not start the Car.
I explained about the Start/Stop Button / Foot on Clutch
Not an impressive start
Seems they dont really know whats wrong so have suggested changing the entire Gearbox
something i am not happy with on a Car thats 3 years old and 87K on the clock

I explained thats its just a faint bump bump bump noise in 1st & 2nd Gear
Passenger side front I am thinking Drive shaft splines or a Bearing
But Def not an entire Gearbox ( Have just travelled 600 Miles over the Last 4 Days )

Prob going to Take it to Team Valley in Gateshead who will Ask Land Rover for a Gesture of Goodwill
Towards the Repair ( Miracles do Happen )
Was told Landrover have No Gearbox spares in the UK
Strange that i was able to look on the Interweb and find a New one for £425

Advice anyone ?? Freelander TD4 XS Zermatt Silver Sept 07. twin elec. LR tow bar, mudflaps.

Hi Grinzola

Wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to exact nature of the problem although I suspect that a shunt on the front wheel bad enough to ruin a tyre and a wheel could easily push a drive shaft backwards onto the gearbox with sufficient force to cause fairly serious damage.

I had a similar incident a couple of years ago when my wife was driving my Seat Toledo and hit the kerb with a front wheel when she had to swerve to avoid another car as a result sustained serious steering and suspension damage including a new steering box. The good news however was that my insurance company picked up the bill ( less excess ) including 2 weeks car hire while we waited for parts coming from Seat in Spain. It might be worth giving them a call.

Sound like you may have displaced something in the constant velicity joint (CV) in the driveshaft. It works hardest on torque and on lock so may not be apparent all the time Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

I have been informed the engine mountings require replacing and this could be the source of the problem.. I will keep you posted on the outcome
