Simply because the majority of people prefer the way a vehicle looks with bigger wheels. If I offered a free upgrade on every car sold to the next size up then I would estimate that less than 5% would turn my offer down. Don't get me wrong, your justification for smaller wheels as absolutely spot on, however it does depend on where you stand in terms of form over function. Personally, I think that you are right, however I personally prefer the way a vehicle looks with bigger wheels, therefore I would compromise on kerb vulnerability and cost to have an aesthetically appealing vehicle. Lots of people mention a difference in ride, and this is also right from a physics perspective, however this is also a personal thing. We test drive many people in many Freelander with different size wheels, and again I would suggest that less than 5% could tell the difference between a 18"/19" wheel on an HSE as far as the ride is concerned. Why not offer your wheels as a like for like swap on the forum. I bet there will be a LE Black, S, GS or XS owner who would swap? ![]() James ![]() |

You often see them on an auction site with a buy it now around £600 for a set, but in an auction they normally make around £450 to £550 a set. |
