Nice looking wheels CG

But why does nearly everyone go for larger more bling wheels?
They kerb easier - and then look Censored
When to pinch them against the kerb/rocks the sidewalls are ruined.
They give a harsher ride.
There is a smaller selection of tyres available.

Handling is never going to be in the Lotus league so low profiles just don't make sense Confused

So wish mine had 16" wheels as standard - will do as soon as SWMBO/finances relent. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Simply because the majority of people prefer the way a vehicle looks with bigger wheels. If I offered a free upgrade on every car sold to the next size up then I would estimate that less than 5% would turn my offer down.

Don't get me wrong, your justification for smaller wheels as absolutely spot on, however it does depend on where you stand in terms of form over function. Personally, I think that you are right, however I personally prefer the way a vehicle looks with bigger wheels, therefore I would compromise on kerb vulnerability and cost to have an aesthetically appealing vehicle. Lots of people mention a difference in ride, and this is also right from a physics perspective, however this is also a personal thing. We test drive many people in many Freelander with different size wheels, and again I would suggest that less than 5% could tell the difference between a 18"/19" wheel on an HSE as far as the ride is concerned.

Why not offer your wheels as a like for like swap on the forum. I bet there will be a LE Black, S, GS or XS owner who would swap? Very Happy

James Thumbs Up

Those wheels are called "StyleTwo". here in CH. You can "upgade" (haha) to those from standard "GS" wheels for the small consideration of SFr 560 each. That's approximately UK£ 350 each at this morning's FX rates Shocked

You often see them on an auction site with a buy it now around £600 for a set, but in an auction they normally make around £450 to £550 a set.

Don't look bad, is that also half way to don't look good either Question From my point the funny bit is when CG realised that they were not what he thought they were Very Happy Priceless, just wish I could have seen his face it must have been a picture Very Happy
Any way I even had a set Shocked just bought them though for the tyres, was then going to put a set of winter tyres on them but after the snow we had the Freely coped pretty well on the standard Conti's so decided to get shot and have £500 in my pocket rather than the garage.
I don't think CG minds, he gives as good as he gets and there is never any malice (from me anyway) it's just a bit of "Banter" Thumbs Up

This is how you "kerb" a tyre

General Grabber AT2 less than 4000 miles old, kissed a rock at speed.

Best bit is - that wheel was relatively strait, the front wheel was buckled but stayed inflated.

Wouldn't really want to do it with low profile tyres. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
