Off roading at LRM show

Hi guys,

I have a place booked on the off road course at the LRM show in Warwickshire this August. I have zero off road experience and my FL2 is new so I don't want to get stuck and break it lol!

Anyone been to the LRM show before and know how demanding the course is? I have now idea how good the FL2 is off road. Perhaps some owners can tell me what its capable of in the rough stuff.

Any ideas? Someone respond please. I just need off roading pointers from someone who has used their FL2 off road.

only done a few LR Experiences myself and done a few trips to events organised by Disco3

Tong and Kielder etc

Do you drive their cars at the LRM? i presume they will sit in the passenger seat

which ever, select correct TR setting and take it nice and easy trying to pick your route etc

the cars a remarkably able and you just applied small amounts of power and they do the rest, well you have to steer as well

what sort of tips you wanting, anything in particular....... Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thanks for the response.

You use your own car at the LRM show. I am just concerned about breaking something on the car by perhaps not knowing how to approach rough terrain and what speed to go at etc. Probably just worrying too much. I know any failures wont be covered under warranty if it has been done whilst off roading.

There will be marshals on the course. Suggest you approach them, explain your lack of experience and ask if anyone can go round in the car with you. If you ask in advance someone may even take you round beforehand in their vehicle to show how it's done.

If it's designed for members of the public it will be "non damaging", and although it will seem extreme to you it will all be well within the car's capabilities. Keep it in first, dial up the appropriate off-road mode, take it easy and enjoy! (Then book yourself on a LR experience to see wht the car can really do!)

if you break something due to driver error, yes your correct, but if the car fails whilst your off road then it will be still covered, after all it is a off road car and LR know that it maybe used off road Thumbs Up

Approach the obstacle at a low speed, trying not to ride the clutch too much with it been a manual, but you have to not apply too much gas, but enough for the obstacle, and it maybe required to set the gas and dip....dip the clutch

remember that going over bumps will make the car bounce when your front wheels go over the mound the car will go lower, too much speed will make the bounce lower and make bottoming out a possibility and you may hear strange noises and thing that make you feel your cars been ripped to pieces, were actually its not

do you have experience of HDC and how it works? in mud and ruts TR setting it will be on, leave it on Thumbs Up approaching a hill, press the cruise controls minus button a few times this will reduce the HDC speed, slowly approach the top of the hill, when your cars about to go over the top, foot OFF the break and let it do its thing, its quite a feeling the first time and you'll heard it working away

if your going up a hill and stall the car, footbreak, handbreak and select reverse, the HDC will be still on and you will be able to let the car go back down the hill to safety, and THEN restart the car (this is what i was shown by 10forCash a Disco3 ex LRE instructor) then try the hill again, maybe with a little bit more of a run up, a little more speed etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

just looked at the link you posted, the pictures appear to make it look like a quite boggy site

if nobody on heres has been, maybe somebody on Disco3 has been and off roaded.

I'm sure if you join over there, and explain your from here, your new to off roading and ask for their advice and experience of the site you'll get a fair few responses

maybe someone will meet you and take you round etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If the marshalls do not think your car is capable they will advise you not to tackle the obstacle - as they are the ones who are likely to get muddy helping you out.

If the ruts do look deep, if possible straddle them - ie one wheel in the center and one wheel on the bank.

In deep ruts try and avoid getting out - getting out is not a problem but as you close the door the lower plastic trim can hit the bank and flick off, it will not be damaged unless you drive over it Crying or Very sad .

PLease please please book a landrover experience for half a day, get some qualified training, you will love it, you will be amazed at the FL2 capabilities, and you are less likely to damage your pride and joy by doing something daft. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
