We have a 2009 LR2 HSE in the USA. During the last couple of years we've noticed that the battery seems to drain if the car is left for a few days. At the last service 12 months ago the dealer updated the LR2 with a TSB that fixes an issue with the computer not shutting down properly. This however hasn't solved the issue 100% and we have had a few occasions where we have had a flat battery.

I thought you always had to deadlock the car before it shut down completely, if you leave it unlocked it never shuts down completely? |

We will try locking it next time we go away, but surprised since I've never had to lock other cars

Think the scope for a class action lawsuit are as flat as a flat Landy battery. How would the plaintiffs be able to evidence any sort of commonality of fault - every battery cycle of charge and discharge is different in every vehicle. Also seems very clear that if leaving the car it has to be locked for the shut down regime to work properly - I have left my freely2 for several weeks without any problems. Having said that, LR can rightly be slated for not properly designing their battery management systems to provide certainty of sufficient charge remaining to start the vehicle when a software programme gets out of sorts. It is no joke that some Full Fat drivers have been known to carry a jump start pack around in the boot because the electronics were so prone to flattening the battery - that is evidence of sloppy electronics design. Reliable starting is just not a LR priority sadly. Beyond me why they don't have a small cranking battery for engine starting and a service bank for everything else with a split charge regulator to ensure even charging and isolation of the starting circuit from all the other software junk.

Think you best check out the information on this comprehensive thread from our sister forum. http://www.disco4.com/forum/post1366423.html There's not a lot that Robbie doesn't know when it comes to modern day LR's. Good luck, hope you now find the cause. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:- Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip, Bluetooth Music Streaming Module. |

Later models have a "power management module" which regularly tells you via the touch screen that he/she is about to start shutting things down unless you start the vehicle.

Note that, in pre-2013 vehicles at least - I'm not certain about later ones, it should make no difference whether the vechicle is unlocked, single locked or double locked - it should still shut down into exactly the same state after a certain time. That time varies slightly according to the lock state - shutdown period is 35 minutes if the car is unlocked or single-locked, and 12 minutes if double-locked, but the end state is the same. LR specify a quiescent drain of <23.6 mA after shut-down (figures from the Topix manual.)

Here's my update on a simple test during November and December for our 2009 LR2 HSE - we live in the USA.

I have a 2010 model TD4 first registered Sept 09. I have only once suffered a flat battery. The day before I had been engaged in a telephone conversation (iphone through the car bluetooth) when arriving at home. I shut down the engine before terminating the phone call. Apparently this action leaves a load on the battery which flattens it overnight. Remedy: Always terminate the call before engine shutdown!
