Registration & Insurance

Evening all,

Might seem a silly question - but when will I know the registration plate number of my ordered FL2 so I can arrange the insurance ?
I've never bought a new car before, so don't know if the dealer puts the plate on it when they receive & register the car, or something else happens ?
Mid-July delivery date..... getting impatient..... Whistle

Thank you !

You can insure it on it's chassis number and inform them of the number plate once known Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The dealer should contact you when they register it...at the very latest, you could insure it on the day you pick it up. Phil

Firstly call your dealer and tell them you would like to choose your new reg number from any they have available. If they have a decent number of sales each month they should be issued with a block of numbers. I've choosen the reg for my last few new cars. Generally there is nothing of interest, but you may get lucky. Either way you will get the reg way in advance. These days you can call the day of and change vehicles. However in order to register and tax the car, your dealer needs to show proof of insurance. Rather than having the hassle of you sending your new docs etc. to the dealership, LR offer 7 days free insurance on a new purchases which for all intense and purposes will sort the papasrwork out and you don't need to sort this out as you dealer will do it. However I always still insure my car from pick up and ignore the value of the 7 days free cover. Thumbs Up 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

Quite a few dealers are now giving 7 days free insurance with new and second hand cars. It means that they can legally hand you the keys and have no responsibility after you leave their forecourt. Simon

Think I should be able to arrange insurance on the day of pick up. Got an email from my dealer today - apparently they always have at least 20 registration numbers on their system at any one time, so I can choose the one I like the best ! Smile
