United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Rimini Red

Congrats - that's great

most I have seen from my manual is 41.8 and that was on a really long trip down to London - fully loaded, dog, kids, wife when the fuel shortages were looming so a steady 60mph all the way (Not a task I would like to repeat!!) There's always a way forward!

what sort of speed do you drive at? 40mpg is impossible on my auto, even when pootling around at speed limits with no aircon on

was it just on the screen for a second or two after a fill up and reset Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It was reset before I set off and was a 50 mile trip. I had to rush to Bromsgrove and back yesterday (somebody has to) cruising at 80mph on the motorway (except in the roadworks - 50mph!) and was shocked to see my trip had achieved 38.4mpg - I dont get that when I drive lightfooted!!

The FL2 is booked in for service in 2 weeks time so perhaps this is her way of thanking me for the new oil and filters I am treating her too as well as some stupendiously expensive grumby old technician drooling over her.

that's the thing though with photos

I can get mine reading that, also if i time a photo right it will say 99.9mpg

but after how many miles are those taken, my reading was saying 29.7 or something when i went to Scotland the fill up proved 27.32mpg

are these remapped, with aftermarket bits and bobs to increase the mpg (pm if you like, so not to publish you have tinkered with the car)

I have just plodded around for the last 298 miles and filled up with 19miles left and got 21.34mpg (fill up to fill up), mainly rural driving with short runs

so either your readings are wrong, or mine and many others have a problem

I have decided today after filling up yet again at around 300miles unless LR do something about mpg for the next FL2 (or what ever its called) I doubt I will bother again, I don't off road anymore, so the off road pedigree is worthless to me, I might as well look towards the opposition and their high mpg offerings as long as its in good stead for towing the caravan (unless Ii opt for a D4 then you expect low mpg)

I keep reading about a EGR blanking kit and wonder if that would solve it, but then i mights as well throw the warranty out the window which is suicide on a LR Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Wales 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Think I said before I got 44.6 MPG on a recent 70 mile round trip. did the same the next day and got 43.8.
Its a manual though and I had to drive really carefully to do it. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

I know the cruise is on in my pic but that is returning from a 70 ish mile round trip to Harrogate, doing 70 the entire way except a couple miles of dual carriageway where that was taken. It's an automatic too.

I'm not quite sure how I managed to make it do 45mpg that day, I think sometimes everything just clicks. I've noticed that fast open roads yield the best results, rather than motorway.

It's ususally hovering around the 35mpg mark on ours, unless I do alot of ciity work or towing when it can drop into the 20's, although this is rare. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Another thought...tyre pressures? I can't remember what ours are off hand because there's that many damn things with the cars in our house, but they are slightly above what LR recommend. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

19"s run at 35psi from memory, checked every week according to sticker on drivers door pillar

Starting to think somethings wrong with this ones engine to be honest, no smoke or anything giving signs of anything misfiring etc, airfilters clean enough and swivled round 180degress

End of the day if you get 38 - 40+ mpg then great Thumbs Up , but me reading about it is as bad as scuffing an alloy Big Cry Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The best I have acheived from my Auto is in the region of 38MPG and that is on a long run. Current tank full is on 26.7 Big Cry and most of that is short runs.

Short runs affect it massively, when it was really cold mine drops to the high 20's when doing a short trip into town, but this is still 30% ish better than some for whatever reason.

People only getting low 20's sounds like there is a problem somewhere.

Hope you get to the bottom of it, I won't mention 40mpg again! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Stornoway Grey

We've done about 3000 miles in our manual now, absolute best mpg was 37 and that was on a 100 mile run, mainly motor ways and dual carriageways. I have yet to achieve anything like the stated numbers, however, most journeys in the FL2 are short ones which doesn't help. In my opinion, the 'e' stop start stuff makes no difference whatsoever.
