England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Auto, anyday of the week, pure luxury Thumbs Up Then save up for some 18's or 19's wheels and you've got a great looking car (Actually very good without the wheels but i'm sure you know what I mean)

If you go offroad or tow a trailer auto every time - just look at the posts for slipping clutches.

we used to share the driving in the manual, SWMBO will not drive the auto Very Happy

S v's GS Crying or Very sad
no toys (terrain response is brilliant) v's nice toys mmm

dead easy for me to say with a HSE auto, but would still go for the S auto, just because of the reliability.

But not an easy choice. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

I have spent the last week hopping in and out of a manual and an auto.

The auto is a much nicer car to drive. It is smoother, quieter, even feels faster (could be subjective of course) and when you get held up in traffic the auto is a joy. Although I have only just taken delivery of my new manual GS - I will be looking to trade in for an auto when economically feasible. I was genuinely surprised at how good the auto is in the Freelander... seamless shifting and good ratios.

On the negative side - the auto uses more fuel, has higher road tax and pollutes the planet more.

Not sure why people think this. I tow with a manual and my next car will be the same. If the engine is powerful enough and the clutch good, and you are not trying to tow something you shouldn't, then a manual will cope just as well - and your emissions and fuel consumption will be quite a bit better than in an auto.

yep - i'd agree, recently had the same debate (in my head) and plumbed for the manual given the ever rise price of fuel - resale could be stronger later in life, given fuel prices will have got right of hand by that time!

Good luck with your purchase, it'll be worth it Smile 2010 LR Freelander2 XS TD4_e Manual - Santorini Black (family car for the misses)

They are frugal when compared to my old td5 defender stage 2+ I'd be lucky with 15mpg on the motorway! My current car, a mk5 golf GTI is doing about 27mpg on super unleaded (123.9p/litre) so anything more than that is a bonus!
