Use the synthetic oil. I always try to use Mobil 1 as I have a GTO that requires it, but I want my LR2 to last a long time and so it gets the same treatment. |

At 2200 miles oil seem pretty clean, level is normal, so I wait until 3000 miles and then change it to get rid of all those metal shavings from break-in. |

Tash, I think you will find that Magnatec is only semi-synthetic.

It's confusing, even after checking on the Castrol website (may be that should be because of checking the Castrol web site!)

Cheapest place for Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 for topping up TD4s appears to be the large Tesco Extra stores selling it for approx £13.50 for 2 litres.

It depends. The handbook recommends Castrol lubricants, which relects the coporate alliance between Ford and BP. However different dealer groups have their own arrangments for bulk supply of lubricants. If your dealer if part of a group that has an allaince with Castrol thats what you'll get; however that won't be the case for all dealers, for instance I know my dealer is tied to Mobil products. You'll have to ask .... |

I have also had to add about 1/2 litre (approc 7000 km). I have discovered an interesting quirk in the i6 and now i am worried that i may have overfilled by approx 1/4 litre. I get a different oil level reading depending on which way i insert the dipstick??? One way it reads "full" but flip it around and take another reading and it looks like about 1/4" above the full mark. Yikes! Have I overfilled??????

Gibbergump, the oil dipstick has a yellow plastic on top. One side has Engine written on it and should face front and the other Motor and should face the engine. The reading will be no good the other way round. |
