Rear diff

Hi, Does anyone know if the rear diff has quite a lot of pre-load on them from the factory?

Reason I ask is that when pulling away from a junction (and turning), I'm getting some noise from the rear diff, like it's locking. Only when pulling away quite briskly.

Anyone else suffer this?

Cheers,

I've heard this but just forgotten to mention it to the dealer, although mine's when on full lock, accelerating or not. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Had it confirmed from dealer today that it is indeed a rear diff part wear/beginning to fail.

Details are sketchy at the mo, but it has 'contamination in the oil'.

Will report back when I find out more.

High Andy,
what happened with that rear diff? Did it cured itself or the dealer replaced it for you?

Best regards

Mine was repaired last week. They replaced the main input shaft bearings (or whatever they're called). My car was just making a general droning sound when driving. I hadn't noticed the noise when turning. LR have released a repair package, which cost £460.00 at the dealers. I asked for a contribution from LR and they agreed to contribute 1/3rd. The diff is lovely and quiet now Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Yeah its mainly labour. Apparently its one mother of a job. Better than 1500 quid for a new one
