H7 - Yeah

Dont forget the sidelight bulbs or you will have blue and yellow, most off putting.

Try these. Instead of your HID H7's from the US, try these first, a lot cheaper. I basically had Xenon lights, but needed the side light and main beams to look identical. These did the trick.

Not intending to spoil the fun, but have you checked whether the headlight unit can work with HID?
It must be shaped and equipped with a lens - all this to avoid other drivers being dazzled by the light.

Something like this:

If the FL2 headlight unit is the same for halogen and HID, then your conversion will be safe for the others.

I don't know what the UK law says about this, but in PL such conversion usually ends with a ticket and a request to install halogen bulbs back. If not possible, the car is not allowed to go back on the road.

Good point.

I did some investigating into this and found out that there are different types of bulbs depending on how its housed.

Theres H7S and H7R

H7R are for reflector headlamps (as found on FL2) part of the bulb has a film over it so not to blind other drivers.

H7S are for headlamps much like the ones shown in your post, that have the reflector ball inside and therefore projects the light correctly on its own.

I had a HID mod on my Leon (which I sold this week).

There is a shop on eBay something along the lines of Dianne-Shop (Chinese seller) - who was the best of the bunch (and worked out about £35).

You just need to make sure the FL2 has not a can bus system (if it has, you can get can bus specific HID's - if not, then the standard ones are fine).

You need to modify your headlight cover slightly (cut a hole in the back of them) - but this is sealed by a rubber gromit (supplied).

They are easy to fit & are fantastic.

As mentioned above, they are actually illegal to use if you have not got the correct lens type.

I didnt in the Leon, but when fitting, marked on a wall the before & after light distribution, and it was exactly the same as the standard bulbs (also passed 3 MOT's with them in).

Some of the guys on the forum had a very wide distribution, so had the lights re-aligned at a garage (about £15).

The higher up the light scale you go, the wider the distribution of light (and the "bluer" they get). I would recommend 6000k as these have a sharp distribution & are "pure white".

I also found a fantastic LED sidelight that matches the HID exactly. Used them for 3 years & they were still going strong when I sold the car (I'll try to find the link).

Found a few links - obviously see if they are compatible with the FL2 1st before ordering (haven't picked mine up yet !)

just thought i'd add that retrofitting HID's is illegal in most applications and can leave you liable to a fine by the police.
