First post!

Hi there,

Having recently purchased a 6 month old XS (which I love!) however am having problems using my £400 phone with the factory car kit.

It's a Nokia N97 which i unfortunately have upgraded with the latest firmware and which connects for a second and then disappears. I've tried it in a different Freelander and the same thing happens.

Has anyone managed to connect and use a Nokia N97 or is my phone useless?

Thanks for any replies

D.Bogey

Sorry, I had one of those - it drove me nuts, and never did what it said on the tin.

Got a HTC HD2 and a iPhone 3GS now - both work just fine. Very Happy

The bluetooth set up is hopeless unless you have specific phones. I have the parrot in my other vehicles which works very well but the FL2 one is a pain.
I have a Nokia 6650 & is OK for incoming calls but if you try & make a call via the dash it freezes the phone & that is it - you may as well switch it off. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

it is very very frustrating - how hard can it be to match up the firmware of modern up to date phones? It's only bluetooth at the end of the day

I'm also finding it almost impossible to get Nokia or Vodafone to roll back my firmware too

Never quite got to the bottom of why it is the case, but most in Car bluetooth solutions have glitches with certain phones. I have a BMW with bluetooth that would speak to my SE phone brilliantly, Nokia 6310 fantastic, Motorola RAZR yep, the 3G RAZR - Forget it.

Parrot devices are great, but then they make bluetooth devices for phones and that is their business. I think tha the car ones fall into the "do it, but don't spend too much!!"

If I'm honest I think that the Bluetooth solution is a bit poor really.

1) - The field length on the display is too small and doesn't scroll
2) - It displays each individual phone number, rather than showing a contact and if that contact has more than one number clicking on the contact brings up the options.
3) - It copies numbers that have Fax as the field identifier....erm, why?
4) - The memory is just too small (500 numbers, my phonebook has 600+contacts some with 4 numbers on them)

But, it came with the car, and it does connect with my phone. There is half a workround for the phone numbers, it just is all a lbit of a faff!! Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Well thankfully i didn't pay £400, afaik that is the retail price - i actually paid nothing and, as i have now learned, you get what you pay for... i can't wait to fork out for an iphone in the summer when my contract is up

Not much help probably, but my N96 works fine. You have to download the phonebook to the car by 'sending' it from the phone as it doesn't download automatically, but other than that no problems. Mind you I may go the iPhone route when my contract comes up for renewal as Vodaphone offer it as well now.
