terrain response settings not returning to highway

I briefly used terrain response off road last weekend on grass, ice, snow setting. When returning to noranl roads I switched it back to highway setting. Next morning the car started up in grass setting again, as it has done twice today Rolling Eyes

It's no big deal switching TR manually back to highway setting, but I'm wndering if anyone has any idea why it won't default back to highway setting? Razz

My old one did it, but instead of staying in grass, gravel snow for the iirc 6 hours after the engines turned off it would resort back to Highway

I think it was a software update or a faulty dial which fixed it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Mine does the same. Wink

Last weekend mountain driving in snow and ice, the Grass-Gravel-Snow setting was used. On the journey home next day the dial was turned to General Program as soon as we drove onto dry asphalt where it remained for the 4-hour drive. Next day when we started up in the garage the TR was back on G-G-S setting, as it has also done in the past.

My wife tells me that’s normal if you don’t turn the dial back to General setting and then one extra notch backwards, then she says it cancels out the "bug". I have not tried it myself, but then she uses the Freely more than me in those conditions. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

It is supposed to stay in the setting you was last in

if it's changing setting on it's own it's faulty and
needs looking at before wRranty runs out

Mine always resets itself to normal road whenever I restart it.
So what is it now? does it have to reset or not?

it should stay in the selected setting for 6 hours after turning off the car

Thats how mine did once the dealer sorted it, and my new does that too

I think its stated in the manual, maybe Andy can check as i refuse to read it more than once Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

emmmm

Thx for responses. Clearly tis a bit odd ........... it started as G G S two days running despite me sitching it back to motorway manually each time. Third day, and after longer drive, it now seems fine and stays in motorway setting.

There must be a TR bug, though I'm not sure it's worth getting LR to attempt to fix it!?

Bit of snow over last couple of days caused me to use Terrain Response on GGS. Switched it back to normal mode before switching off.
Next couple of times car started up it reverted to GGS setting even though I have driven in normal mode before switching off. Its only just started doing this as far as I am concerned.

I know that Land Rover put lots of other 'features' into the car that they don't always document in the handbook - do you think its clever enough to know its snowing and set it for me? Laughing

Think I will book it in at the Dealers once Christmas is out of the way - unless anyone is awae of a new feature! There's always a way forward!

Worth a try, but my co-driver swears that when truning the dial back to normal, if you turn it one more notch, it will be in the normal position when the car is started next time and not in the grass/snow/gravel mode. Sort of cancels out the bug. I never remember to do this so I dont know if it really works or not Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Mine did this too yesterday. I used snow mode when I went to rescue someone struggling with frozen snow on the local roads. Switched back to normal but found it selected snow mode again when started later.
AndyC's point about backing off an extra notch could make electronic sense. The knob is an encoder, not a normal switch. The first notch will select the mode but may not update non-volatile register in the microcontroller while it's busy reconfiguring the car. An extra notch might well initiate that. As someone who programs microcontrollers, I would say it's more of a bug than a feature?
I'll try test this over coming days. I wonder what would happen if you were in ruts mode??

Cheers Andys - I had read this in the earlier posts and have tried it with very mixed results - some times it works then sometimes not.

I did try turning to Mud Ruts and the other thing and then back and this seems to have worked but I will check one I get back in it tonight. Saying that, the rate the local council grit our roads it might be best leaving it in GGS til march!

Thanks for the feedback - anyone else 'suffering'?? There's always a way forward!

Still got a mind of its own and inconsistently but to its credit its picking out the right setting for the weather!

Not been stuck yet - but not been trying hard enough. Thumbs Up

The FL2 seems to be able to negotiate most inclines - one thing I forgot though was that it only has the same number of braked wheels as all the other cars on the street. My memory is now refreshed!!

Anyone got a Santa emoticon? There's always a way forward!
