The point is simple: I have illustrated by a detailed answer of LR2inTheUSA's post of what "he" liked in the Tiggie of what is either a feature "I" do not like or what "I" and others (Audi Owners & Euro NCAP) have found to be impractical or positively unsafe. Just as "he" is at liberty to state his likes, "I" am also at liberty to express an opinion - albeit an opposite one.

Furthermore, if you read my earlier post of 22.Dec. 13:15hrs., you will see that I have contributed verifiable data on the subject of (and I quote your reproach) "why more tiggies are sold" vis-ä-vis FL2's.

Re your comments:

1:Too many settings are not only time wasting but, increases the potential for a total electrical failure and lead to complete irritation on behalf of the driver believing he/she is just another setting away from nirvana. Bit like chasing a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Please alert Land Rover! They are clearly on the wrong track with their Range Rover, Sport, and LR4. Whistle

2: Fold flat front seat is dangerous. Any unsecured load placed on there (or even a "secure" item under certain conditions) will, in an RTA present an unnecessary risk to the driver and other occupants.

It works nicely for a laptop. Or briefcase. Or if your Mum needs a ladder.

3: This "sliding" facility, by the very nature of its design, contributes to the reduction in its normal load space capacity (less than the FL2) when the back seats are in their standard normal position. Unless the back seats are never used and there is always only one or two persons using the vehicle it is neither use nor ornament. And if that was the case (1 or 2 person capacity requirement) you would indeed be better off buying a small 4x4 pick up.

We found it increased the cargo carrying ability. Neutral

4: Why on earth anyone wishes to place wet dirty skis inside their car I'll never understand. I have observed for years friends' initial delight with their Audi ski pouch deteriorate into dismay and anguish that this feature has been instrumental in accelerating the wear and tear of their load space trims. Vibration and careless ski handling being the main cause, which in turn also contributes to the very fabric of the pouch not standing the test of time. Finally, when this is taken into account together with the interior space the skis consume and the malignant stench of damp skis they have all eventually reverted to placing their skis on top of their cars - not inside.

They get nicked from the tops of vehicles quite a bit around here. Safer inside. Plus a trip through the mountains with snowboards covering your pano mountain view sunroof is less scenic. Could get a hitch mount I suppose.

Are you asking me or the kids or the wifey? The answer would be different most likely. Shocked

6: The Euro NCAP independent vehicle safety test facility rated the FL2 safer for adults and children than the Tiggie. Possibly that fold flat front seat helped the Tiggie to fall flat on its not so "solid" face.

Interesting. Over here the Tiguan is a top rated CUV www.iihs.org

A neighbor backed over her child recently. Censored She who must be obeyed would like one.

Even the more base models? Those would seem to eliminate most all of your concerns. Idea

Yes, but there, on the website, you won't find Freelander 2 for comparison.
Only the older Freelander, Freelander 1.
They haven't tested (yet) Freelander 2.
While EuroNCAP tested both cars. And in their tests, on identical conditions, FL2 is better.

Your candid responses are interesting - thank you. I am in no way trying to "enlighten" you re the Tiggie, only expressing what I found during a weekend evaluation test drive. And generally:

Re: "Please alert Land Rover! They are clearly on the wrong track with their Range Rover, Sport, and LR4". [Well I don't believe they are on the wrong track in offering multi functional electronic seats, but I do believe that despite the great improvements they have made across the product range in quality, electronics are still their Achilles heel so it would make good business sense not to over expose yourself - consumers are unforgiving folk.]

Re: "It works nicely for a laptop. Or briefcase. Or if your Mum needs a ladder". [I've seen 30kph crash test videos of how an unsecured laptop or a briefcase can seriously injure an occupant of a vehicle. My partner tries to fix the heads of those involved when they arrive at her A&E department. Anything of that nature left on a front seat (fold flat or not) is an invitation to disfigurement.]

Re: "We found it increased the cargo carrying ability".
[color=darkblue][Great] [I found that our family's usage will mean that for 60%+ of the time there will be 3 persons onboard. For the majority of the remainder 2 persons onboard, seldom will there be just the lone driver. Sliding rear seats was not important - and on tech specs the load volume of the FL2 is greater than a sliding Tiggie]
[/color]

Re: "They get nicked from the tops of vehicles quite a bit around here. Safer inside. Plus a trip through the mountains with snowboards covering your pano mountain view sunroof is less scenic. Could get a hitch mount I suppose." [Clearly neither VW, LR or any car manufacturer are responsible for the criminality of your society - but hang on a minute - you really should not be looking through the panorama sunroof whilst driving - anywhere! That's irresponsible]

Re: "Are you asking me or the kids or the wifey? The answer would be different most likely." [I agree it would - however you raised the "entertainment spec question" and so my reply was address to you. I stated also in that reply that I share the same view of possibly the greatest car designer to date: Sound systems have no place in a motorcar as they distract the driver from the primary task]

Re: "Interesting. Over here the Tiguan is a top rated CUV www.iihs.org" [Yes indeed it is a top rated vehicle, unfortunately it is not "Best in Class"]

Re: "A neighbor backed over her child recently. She who must be obeyed would like one." [Fine - obey] [If she said
let's take a family holiday in Afganistan do you also obey] [You can very safely manage without both the holiday and the camera, and particularly in the US the rear camera will not save you from the personal injury liability lawyers]

Re: " Even the more base models? Those would seem to eliminate most all of your concerns." [No - the Tiggie is not as comfortable as the FL2]

Enjoy whatever make and model you drive. Very Happy

I've said enough on the topic of the Tiggie Smile

-o-

On the subject of open debate I do not agree with you Boxer/Cerdo. Any fellow member(s) (in this case LR2inTheUS and myself) should be allowed to discuss their views/ideas. Neither of us has been rude or insulting to each other. Both of us have raised interesting comments on our perspective of motoring and what we look for in a car. That's a broad and relevant subject - this is not a website about knitting.

A "topic/thread" is not the exclusive domain of any one member - this is a public forum where Moderators may intervene. So let's have open minds and hearts and healthy debate. Very Happy
