in dash sat nav unit

Has anyone here installed an aftermarket in dash GPS system in their Freelander? I am wanting to install one and would like to know which unit to buy. I have contacted the makers of the Polaris Sat Nav systems and they seem to have one that fits for $1295.

Do you know of any others?

Liz

I know for a fact that the Garmin nuvi 760 fits and is approx $800- supplied and installed - It is the most popular install for FL and RRS bceause it fits into the space on the dash perfectly without needing to be built in. ______________________________

Excelent. Thanks Andrew. I'll check it out.

Also, In the future, I am after side steps, body mouldings and front bumper and lights protection as well as a waterproof rear mat, oh and roof racks. Surprised ( I have two large dogs) Any ideas where I can pick this stuff up for a Freelander other than Land Rover?

Ask if the dealerships are still doing the 60th Anniversary special accessory package? At least you will get the roof rails and side tubes free.

Otherwise unfortunately we don't have a large enough market here in Oz to pick up LR genuine acc. other than from the Dealer. Ebay has some stuff from the UK, and there are a few non-LR on-line stores in the UK selling acc. but then you have to pay for postage which can be costly (and could have cutsoms issues with new parts). Eventhough the dealer is expensive, the parts will be covered by their new car warranty (3yrs) if purchased upon sale of the vehicle. AND LR will also fit them for you which can be tricky (esp. with the headlight guards).

BTW - The car audio place at Stones Corner is the one that supplies and fits all the LRs with the SatNavs. ______________________________

It looks like it is built in, but it is not. This gives you the option of removing it from the vehicle if you so desire. ______________________________

Ok. I have priced one of these units and can get one for $500. I have someone who can install it for me. But if the Stones Corner shop uses a method of installation where it seems built in, I may need to go through them? Smile

The Garmin Nuvi 760 doesnt fit perfect. You need to place a border around it. Does look smart, but not as good as a PERFECT fit one.

But the Garmin is a good GPS, have one in my current ute. Great GPS, pitty they dont do bigger ones than the 760 range

Thanks Dorko. I am looking at a Polaris Sat Nav unit. Pretty exi. But I think worth it. $1295. But it is Sat Nav, CD, DVD and for $170 more you can rig up the reversing camera.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo...all about money folks. Need to save for a little bit. Smile

Hi Plak40,

Which unit in the Polaris range are you looking at? Are you going to replace the factory radio unit with the GPS or the GPS can be fitted into the dash above the factory radio?

Thanks
