Why Oz baby car seats so ugly?

Expecting a new family member in few weeks time. Been searching everywhere, not one car seat can match the quality compare to oversea's model. Was waiting for Safety 1st Air series to come. But just been told that model not coming to Oz market. sigh!!

I love those Recaro seats from Japan.

And we only have brand like Safe and Sound that make seats that look like sofa from the 80's. Most materials Safe and Sound are not suitable for summer. Come on!! I wonder has anyone got any benefit from companies like Safe and Sound by setting our own AUS standard for car seat.

Firstly Congrats.... Thumbs Up

Second... Thats one cool looking baby seat!

Now third, Why cant you just order it off the net? And the summer issue.. do you park your car in direct sunlight? Got window Tint? Surely the baby seats are made with top quality when you start paying $300 plus

Thanks Dorko.

I was looking at Safe n Sound Meridian AHR which cost $419 after discount. I couldn't believe what I am looking at. Material that you can found from $100 lounge chair. And even worse, the plastic parts are design to cut your leather seat. So that you need to purchase a $40 car seat protector. The sales from Baby Kingdom try to show me how to adjust the seat belt. Try 2 seats, both got stuck and only 3rd one work.

I was seriously thinking order from oversea. But been told insurance will not cover if car seat is not Australian standard.

Hey Benny,

I have been looking at the same thing recently. I was stunned to learn that we can't use the ISOFIX mounts that both the cars we own have.

I have considered purchasing from overseas like others have done but Insurance companies being what they are this could be an issue.

Ahh the dramas Rolling Eyes

I tell you what though, if I can get hold of that recaro I will be getting it!

I bought a Safe and Sound AHR convertible today. $420 + $40 seat protector + $9.95 seat belt thing + $30 installation. So $500 all up.

For $500 baby seat, I am getting a ugly looking, thick plasticky cloth cover with little padding, non breathable material, hand cutting plastic, low quality buckle and installer suggest me not to remove the seat at all. For the same price, a friend bought a recaro convertible that is light, high quality material, ISOFIX and much better padding.

For someone who saw the Maxi cosi seat or Recaro seat, should able to understand what I am talking about. Padding is very important for baby safety. Is Safe and Sound really as safe as Recaro? Just use your thumb and push the head side protect pad, it's like comparing padding from cycling helmet and motorbike helmet.

Should I risk using non-Aus standard seat and break the law? I really don't know. I just want my baby to have good quality and safe seat. Is Australian baby seat standard really better than other?

oh, did I mention the smell from my new baby seat. If you going to get one, make sure you give it enough time to air it before use.

Now I know each country has their own laws like in austraila you have to wear kahki shorts that are too tight and in England you have to wear a White hanky on your head whilst on the beach

but when it comes to child safety I think they all have the same goal which is keeping the kids safe if the worst happens

I don't think you can go wrong with any main branded seat they all have to pass safety test, they might be slightley different but all will put the child first

I have used britax, maxi cosi and recaro without hessitation Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
