PCM Fault

My Freelander 2 recently died on me giving a few faults on the dash namely, Transmission Fault, HDC Fault.

I had it a the mechanic that normally services the car, but he couldn't diagnose the fault and after talking to another mechanic they recommended taking it to Land Rover themselves, which is what I did. They are saying it needs a new PCM and charging a small country's GDP. I spoke to a Land Rover specialist someone told me about after this and he said he'd never heard of something like that and doesn't trust Land Rover. SO now i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place with getting it repaired at Land Rover or finding someone else. The only other LR specialist in the area can only help me in May so that is of no use.

Anyone have experience with this? Reading a few forums there seems to be a lot of distrust of LR dealers and people saying the PCM/ECU is probably fine and the fault is something else. I'd like to avoid the cost if I can, but if it is what it is then i'll just have to swallow it.

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Biscay Blue

For a starters, fire up what year and model of Freelander 2 that you own and when was the time it had a new battery fitted? These are the standard questions that are generally asked before any help can be given Laughing . Also do you have any way of scanning the car for any codes that might be on the ECU? https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

My Apologies, it's a 2010 model with the 2.2 diesel engine.

A new battery was fitted after these faults first arose. The vehicle was fine before this apart from the battery draining very quickly if I was parked with the ignition on. After looking up a few sites with these faults a new battery was suggested, but that didn't change anything. Still the same faults.

Are you sure that the battery is charging correctly?

Have you a damaged 'blue wire'?

Can you explain damaged 'blue wire' a bit more? Alternator wire? It was at two mechanics who didn't pick anything up with the battery or alternator. Both said there was a loss of communication with some of the engine modules, but couldn't diagnose without LR equipment.

Follow the link in the post. Read the threads. There is a blue wire which is prone to damage which causes problems with communication between battery and alternator via the ecu.
