Strange key behaviour

Hi Folks, my 2013 FL2's key is doing weird things. The Lock and Tailgate buttons work fine, no problem. The unlock button mostly doesn't work. If you press it enough times all the windows go down but the doors remain locked. I have to reach in and pull the internal unlock tab-handle to get the doors to open. Once I'm inside the car starts fine and I can wind the windows back up no problem. All other aspects are normal.

I have replaced the CR2032 battery and cleaned up the battery contacts in the fob. This made no difference. So, I am wondering firstly, is this more likely a key fault or a receiver fault? The previous owner only had the one key when I bought it and I haven't got around to getting a second one yet so can't check with a second key.

Secondly, I've read the threads on getting a second key coded and its a bit bewildering. The costs are frightening too! From what I can tell, it seems the best and cheapest bet is to buy a key myself off t'internet and then get the dealer to recode both my old and new keys together. Could someone in the know on key issues tell me if I'm right please? Many thanks.

Have solved the first part of this query. The new battery i fitted was a bit of a cheapo. So in desperation I got a top notch Duracell CR2032. Key fob fixed! All works fine now. Moral is don't skimp on the battery, and carry a spare.
