Changing Diff and gearbox oil

Evening,

I’ve a 2012 freelander and wondered if it’s best to change the oil on the transmission, diff and haldex unit early or just wait for the 10 years to roll round. Also I think the cam belt needs doing every 10 years too are they generally good for that or do they tend to fail early?

I had mine done early, there was some muck in the Haldex filter prevention is better than cure.
When the belt was changed mine appeared to be perfect but the one he did previously the week before was quite poor.

According to many threads LR revised the drive belt replacement interval to 8 years (96 months)?

I know I replaced my D1 belt early because they were prone to early failure (like 20% earlier than the LR spec).

Can't hurt anything except the wallet. Unless you DIY. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

best off changing the diff oils and servicing the haldex every 40k miles or so (or possibly every 4-5 years approximately)

if you can do this your self or know of decent garage to do it then great, if not I would strongly recommend taking a trip over to Austen at Bell Engineering near Bewdley/Kidderminster in the West Midlands (depending on where you are in Derbyshire its about 60-90 mins drive time)

for the belt the LR recommended interval WAS 10 years/150k but as has been already said that has apparently been dropped to 7/8 years and 100k.

ive not heard of any premature failures of the belt through this forum, but that's not to say its not happened.

Morning,

I also have a fl2 SD4 2012, got it with very little history in october last year since then I have had the cam belt/auxiliary belt and water pump changed. and fuel filter changed ,along with engine oil/filter change, haldex oil /filter changed.
4 new tyres and 4 wheel alignment, its now going in to have its rear diff oil changed and auto box oil changed.

Hopefully this will keep it going for a while. and wont need doing soon.

Don’t forget to have the transfer box fluid changed! It takes the power from the gearbox and sends it to the prop shaft. Another sealed for life unit that is going to last a whole lot longer if it gets some care.

You can check the brake fluid quality for a simple device, but its also good to flush the muck in the fluid out of the calipers . Jules
