Has anyone modified an upper cargo shelf for a discovery or a defender to fit the freelander 2? They make them for the discovery 2-5 and the defender but nobody seems to make one for the freelander 2. I'm sure there must be a way to modify one to fit.

Thank you, never thought of the airbags being up there like that. I guess that's why nobody has developed one for the freelander 2, just not really practical. Would the dog guard not get in the way of that airbag too? |

I haven't seen one but I think it attaches to the rear edge of the C column half way up the column, so then it would be out the way of the airbag. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I think you will find that’s why it’s only made for the D2 no rear side airbags.......you’d have to be VERY careful mounting and placement of such a luggage rack as an airbag going off might easily detach the rack mountings if not developed with the AB in mind, last thing you want is a high mounted luggage rack of metal being thrown forward in event of an impact. Surely the d3-5s have these side airbags and these high level baskets are available for them too. They attach higher up though so perhaps the airbags can still deploy beside them.

They do indeed have side airbags, and looking at those upper luggage racks I think I would have a very close look at fixture and positioning as regards to airbags (it’s very difficult to see much from the pictures) also I would be asking the manufacturers about any testing regarding airbag deployment with the rack fitted. If by chance they do foul deployment it will be no joke! Regards
