Rear wheel bearing replacement, messed up ! | |
Hi,
Just replaced the NSR wheel bearing.
Decided to do it on car without taking the knuckle off. Watched vids etc
All went surprisingly well, hub off old bearing out, new bearing pushed in, then problems, pushed hub in and it destroyed the bearing, hub a sloppy mess, so it’s all out waiting bits to try again.
I thought I did it right, support inner race and push bearing in.
Either I got it wrong and didn’t,t support rear inner race correctly or pushed it in too hard ?
Could someone confirm that when pushing hub in you support just the inner race with suitable plate at the rear and then have another plate behind this resting at back of knuckle larger than bearing hole, then you push in hub with the inner race supported and rear plate stops and movement forwards / backwards from the back.
Did it with just inner race supported but failed as I think it needs the above set up to stop it moving
Anyone got any pictures of setting up, tried watching you tube vids etc but still don’t see how it should be set up
Thanks

Hi,
Plan A is to give it another go in-situ if I can get the right process for rear bearing support when pushing in.
If that fails I will go to Plan B and remove knuckle
People do it on vehicle and felt I was close to getting it sorted.
How far is hub pressed in ? Gave mine a very good push in and wonder if I overdid it 🙁
