It depends on what you want to achieve?
From memory those units connect to the factory HU via the AUX input, so things like PDC and the dash clock remain working. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

As Nodge says it depends upon what you actually want.

If its just a better GPS then I'd just buy a phone holder for my Android phone and use Google maps or Waze or OSMand plus. Jules

Yeah, looks like it connects into the aux input of the head unit. 2 things to take note of there:

1. You may, like me, have an awful ground loop issue making the aux input unsuable.
2. If you are used to having the ability to skip tracks via the steering wheel when playing music over bluetooth, you will lose this if you use the aux in.

I would try and get something that has "dual bluetooth" meaning you can connect the CarPlay device to the head unit via bluetooth, then your phone to the CarPlay unit, so that you can use bluetooth controls.

Unless this also hooks into the control loom.... FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I’ve just had a look at it on eBay - looks like a really nice bit of kit. I would be interested in which of the audio outputs/inputs you can use with the Freelander 2 head unit.

Oddly the description says “steering wheel control” but in the fine print at the bottom says the steering wheel controls cannot control the new unit, only the original CD player. Rather odd.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I will let you know, Steering wheel controls are volume only.

Yes the volume control on the wheel will work, as the factory audio system is making the sound from the screen, but only if the AUX input is selected.
Seems expensive considering it's basically an android tablet fixed into the hole in the dash. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Yep,
Each to his own I am lazy, I had one in my last car and for me it was good and an improvement, other people may have bad experiences possibly they are expecting too much or don’t how to get the best out of them.
The only thing I am trying to find out is where the dab aerial is connected to as I want to connect it directly to the android unit.

The DAB aerial is connected to the DAB module in the rear side panel. The factory HU gets it's audio from the DAB module via the MOST. As the DAB aerial is controlled by the DAB module, you'll likely not get the best out of it connecting to the new screen, if anything at all. Why not simply use the factory DAB? Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
