My Jag x type has alloy wheels and a steel spare as does my Jag xkr. I never thought about different nuts! Although in my case, it's probably the fact that they are space savers with speed restrictions and not the nut seatings.

I recently bought a set of replacement nuts for the Freelander. The nuts initially supplied had the wrong taper for my alloys. Was told that they had two different sets for my car, one for steel wheels and one for alloys. Second set fitted fine. First set had a 60 degree taper, the second set had a"Ghia 2" taper, whatever that is?

I'd say that it's because the tyre size is not identical to those fitted to the standard alloys so reduced speed recommended to prevent any difference in handling or road holding.

Sorry to disappoint you. My FL2 came with a steel rim as a spare. I acquired a fifth alloy rim and had the tyre taken off the steel rim and placed on to the alloy rim. The tyre size was exactly the same as those already fitted.

As you can see this has a full sized tyre so why should it have a speed restriction?

Way to go is, "Factory full size spare rims", 3 on eBay at present.
Only thing holding me back is I still would like to see a side on picture with steel rims fitted.

I like this idea, tempted myself. Side pic taken off MuddyMods website, this car has the lift kit but shows the wheels nicely.

Thanks Andy, I think silver with road going tyres and centre caps will just give me what i want. Can always go back to the alloys if it doesn't work.
