Australia 2012 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black
PAINT INFO NEEDED PLEASE

I live in Australia and have a 2012, Santorini Black Freelander 2. I bought it in Sydney from the person who bought it new and drove it 2500 miles home. It was a good deal.

In a fairly sudden development there is now a patch on the bonnet that looks like someone left a red hot, 12 inch pizza, there. Its gone a kind of dull grey colour just in that spot. The roof has suffered similarly but the rest of the car is fine.

A friend with an 8 year old black Jaguar has been told that his problem is some paint protective coating coming off.

Does anybody know if Freelanders also had a protective paint coating, particularly for the Australian market. Any advice appreciated

Modern car paints have a clear lacquer coat which is what gives it the shine as most paints are quite dull on their own.

From what Ive seen on Oz and NZ TV (eg "Motorway Patrol") its quite a common issue to see peeled/flaked lacquer on the bonnet and roof of older cars.

I dont think there is much you can do apart from a prep and respray - but I'm no spraying/detailing expert. Jules

Thank you Jules. Paint is not peeling, just dull in one patch on the bonnet and the roof. Rgds Clyno

You can get a 150ml can from Land Rover. I got one in Fuji White, not cheap but it matches.

But if it is more than stone chip touchup (better to spray a drop in the lid & apply with a fine artist paintbrush), you will need to apply a clear coat.

Be extremely patient with touch up cans. Don't put too much on & wait an hour before applying another layer.

Also, the paint needs a week to harden (I have used a few thousand cans for architectural models) if you intend on polishing back down the surface. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Probably a combination of Dark paint colour and the ambiant temperature, car absorbs to much heat,
hot climate, use light colours. DAVE.
