HELP - Drone noise. Haldex/One tire different aspect ratio

Been trying to get to the bottom of a humming/drone seemingly coming from the rear left.

On the verge of trying to book my freelander 2 into Bell Engineering but a 3 hr one way drive.

Noticed today that my rear right tire is 265/66/17 and all the rest are 265/65/17 - so aspect ratio different. My spare is 65 so I'll be changing that tomorrow.

So would this cause damage to my haldex? I trying to work out if its PTU/Haldex/Diff issue. Had new diff 2 weeks ago and noise still there...

If I take the haldex fuse out and unplug it, is it safe to drive ? (test drive to see if the noise is there) I have a suspicion that it's only in 2wd at the moment. My front tires and alloys are really dirty, whilst back tires are clean and shiny.

(No fault on dash, no terrain response error messages and the noise does not change in nature, gets louder with speed)

Help please ?

You can't run 235 & 265 /65 R17 tyres unless you are on Gibb River Road! (even then I have never seen such poor remote holiday planning)

Crawl down to the tyre shop, or better still, pop the wheel in neighbour's car & get something within reason. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

There's no such tyre as a 66% profile tyre.

The standard 17" size is 235/65/r17. Ideally you should fit 4 identical tyres, or at the very least fit tyres in pairs of the same size and pattern.
It's very bad practice to have different mixes of tyres on an AWD vehicle, as when the Haldex locks up, all those tyres will be wanting to rotate at different speeds, which will load up the drive line far more that it was designed to take. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Sorry everyone i've confused this..

I have three 235/65/17 and one 235/66/17

My questions is about the haldex fuse. I can remove it and safely take it for a test drive to see if the noise stops?

Thanks for you time.

Right don't know how to say this, There was a bit a black crap on the 66 tire...

Gave it a brush and it is a 65 - crap was right in the gap of the 5 making it look like a 6.

I read it wrong.
Sorry for wasting everbodies time...

I think i'm going to bite the bullet and drive the 6 hrs to Bell Engineering....

I'm going around in circles, reading tires wrongly... Even if I take out the haldex fuse will it prove anything ?

Now the aspect of 65 vs 66 has been clarified...

You have a bigger problem if you are running 265/xx/yy & 235/xx/yy on the car.

In your posts 265mm & 235mm are mentioned. 265mm tyre is 777mm diameter & 235mm tyre is 737mm diameter on stated ratio & rim diameter.

777mm tyre is a beast on the Freelander. You can't even get a spare 255mm tyre in the boot unless you raise the floor 6mm. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Putting wheel/tyre size issues aside.

Have you tried swapping wheels left to right (assuming they are not directional tyres). Old tyres are noisier mostly due to the way they wear. If you swap sides they will be a bit quieter. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I have a set of 16" hankook dynapro tyres on mine. They make a dreadful noise. If I change to the original 18" wheels with landsail tyres ......silence.
I also had a sticky handbrake on one side, which exacerbated the noise further.

To answer the poor bloke's question - yes you can pull the haldex fuse.

Drive to a waste management centre. Set the car on fire. Save yourself while you can. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Just to back up the previous comments regarding tyres and tyre wear

I started to get a very noticeable and quite loud humming/droning from what seemed like the rear on my Freelander at around 150k miles. I was convinced it must be the rear diff failing. It was due a service and when it went in I asked the garage to check it out. They said they couldn't find anything other than a very slight noise from the PTU but nothing to worry about
Come spring and wheels changed from winter to summer tyres. Noise has gone

So not saying you don't have a haldex or diff problem, but tyre noise, especially when they are quite worn can be misleading

Steve
