Disconnected Air Filter Box - Problem?

Hi all,

I recently opened up the air filter box in order to change the air filter, and noticed the lower half of the box wasn't connected properly (see attached). This shouldn't matter much, correct?

Thanks!

Not a problem as long as you aren’t driving through water. Even driving fast through puddles can drive water up that high and a wet air filter isn’t going to end well.

Thanks Bob, makes sense. I went ahead and reconnected things properly.

By the way, do you know if the air intake duct (LR022058) draws air from within the engine bay, or from outside the vehicle?

My old air filter was utterly coated in tar/oil, presumably because I spilled a ridiculous amount of oil when attempting to top off the oil levels on a windy day (without a funnel), and some of this got drawn in.

The air intake is the left hand grill/indicator repeater on the wing/fender. Air goes in there and then along a duct above the wheel arch before entering the engine compartment. The right hand grill is just a dummy.
