Horn not working 2007 LR2

Hi,

One day I needed to use the horn and it did not honk. The day before it was working fine. Figuring out it was probably a burnt fuse the next day I popped the bonnet, checked its fuse in the fuse box next to the air filter but as my luck would have it, it was good. Next on my list was the relay, and works fine. I checked the horns by bypassing them directly to the battery and they are working fine. Went to the mechanic to check the circular connector in the steering column, hooked the computer and every time he pressed the horn button the display on the computer changed from OFF to ON. The computer however detected a fault and attached is the screenshot of what we saw. Any ideas anyone? Because this thing is making me want to scream. Big Cry Big Cry

Miss the days of my defender where you just grab your wireless drill and pass a new horn through the bulkhead!

Thank you.

Not helpful in this case, but the horns did fail on our FL2 - filled with mud.
They are a right pain to replace as they are behind the steel bumper - so front of car off time. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Have a look at the loom under the airbox, they often cut through there, might save taking the bumper off.

^^^ The encased wire harness that runs underneath the airbox on some models. It' can get chafed by movement of the airbox while motoring. Inspect it for chaff/wear, etc. You can also forum search for this particular problem with the loom.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the various messages. Problem was eventually solved. Some mice chewed through a cable harness somewhere near the wiper motor housing. Took a week’s work at Land Rover service centre here in Siracusa. Anyway, a great guy with years of experience managed to find the broken line and replaced it.

Regards to all and thank you one more time.

Thank you for providing a detailed report, it turns the topic into an invaluable source of information.

P.S. We have had mice in our block of units in the roof. We are on the top floor. While I vacuumed out the ceiling I had noticed rats had chewed through various wires, mostly the active! I repaired the wires & put rat baits around the building. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I have rodent bait inside the engine of the FL2 all year round after having two vehicles disabled the same night by rodents, luckily not the FL2.
