The wheel speed sensor is used for ABS and other things like traction control.

It should be easy to replace, one end bolts onto the wheel hub assembly, the other is an electrical connector which should (IIRC) be accessible from the wheel well. The wire has rubber grommets which will fit into slots to hold it in place.

Probably easier if you jack it up and remove the wheel but you might be able to do it with the car on the ground.

A scantool might tell you which sensor is bad, or you could install a new sensor on one side and then move it to the other side if that doesn't fix the problem. You might need the scantool to reset the codes anyway, not 100% sure they'll clear on their own after you replace the sensor.

But I'd crawl under there and inspect both sensors, wires, and connectors... might be obvious damage or even a disconnected electrical connector on the chassis end. Or the damage might not be visible.

Another thought... if for some reason the car was powered on with a caliper removed, the ABS might have failed a POST. In that case there should be a code of some sort for that, and it should be able to be reset with a scantool now that the caliper is installed.

Are you saying changing the pads caused the warning lights to appear ?
The question then is what did he break as there is no need to mess with cables or sensors when you change the pads ?- its a very straight forward process - page 426 of freebie JLR workshop manual. Jules

Check for starters the front ABS sensor cable connectors. Both for connection and corrosion of the pins

Yes, if the system cannot see the wheel speed (on any wheel) it will de-activate ABS, traction control, etc.

I agree with everyone else - The Brake Sensor, Wiring, or Connector, must have been damaged or disturbed during Brake Pad change. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)
