No excuses for the vans, but a lot of small and some large
modern cars with their curved front wings, do create a problem
with drivers spatial Awareness, giving them an issue with various actions
like parallel parking.
too many drivers just give up any attempt to practice and improve.  DAVE.

Maybe some of the difficulty with spacial awareness comes from the driving position?
Both my sons drive with the seats down and laid back - very laid back, so they are in effect peering over the dashboard rather than looking down onto the road.
How many times have you seen someone driving a car with their eyes peering between the top of the dash and below the steering wheel rim - most days..... Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Add to that the fact that many drivers simply don't know the width of their own vehicle. You see this many times a day as some drivers want to leave at least 2 metres from say a line of parked cars therefore taking up the whole road when there is ample room for two cars to pass. I think it is because they need to see a bit of clear road surface between the parked cars and their own car.

Agree with all of the above.

I was watching someone try to reverse park in a large space, gave up & moved up the road a bit to another large space, gave up & tried at a third.

The only thing they didn't do while reversing into a space is look in the driver's mirror & when you see the gutter turn the wheel the other way.

I explained it to them as I have to others. None have ever heard of it. When I learnt to drive that was the only outside mirror.

It's still the only foolproof system for reverse parking. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Let's not get onto caravans reversing!

One incident we saw.

Wifey was signalling like a marionette with smoke coming off the strings.

The poor bloke looked like he would take a bigger rope before he could finish reversing.

We had to clear out of the area due to the cooked clutch.

From a safe distance we heard a couple of branches being removed & it wasn't from a chainsaw, neither was the associated sound if wife! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Problem with a lot of car drivers is they are too impatient to wait untill it is 100% safe to pass a cyclist and often take a risk and force oncoming traffic to swerve or stop and at the same time not give adequate room to the cyclist, if i cannot give a cyclist a cars width and not cause any grief to oncoming traffic then I wait until I can rather than risk coming into contact with anything and risk getting points on my license. People are just in too much of a hurry nowdays. 2013 FL2 XS.

People are time poor that is true, it’s today’s world. Like parcel vans with more deliveries then Santa, ordered on line by people who want it as cheap as possible and delivered as cheap as possible, then moan the driver is impatient and driving to fast. Today’s world.
