Maybe some of the difficulty with spacial awareness comes from the driving position?

Thats very true - a lot of drivers have no feeling for where their nearside is. I was hit whilst cycling by a lady who overtook me against on-coming traffic - although she should have displayed more situational awareness, there was actually enough room for her to get through but she kept further away from the on-coming traffic than me and hit me. I was lucky not have a a broken/hand arm - the commuter bike I had at the time had bar ends and these protected me from the 30mph door mirror, which shattered. Jules |

Problem with a lot of car drivers is they are too impatient to wait untill it is 100% safe to pass a cyclist and often take a risk and force oncoming traffic to swerve or stop and at the same time not give adequate room to the cyclist, if i cannot give a cyclist a cars width and not cause any grief to oncoming traffic then I wait until I can rather than risk coming into contact with anything and risk getting points on my license. People are just in too much of a hurry nowdays. 2013 FL2 XS.

People are time poor that is true, it’s today’s world. Like parcel vans with more deliveries then Santa, ordered on line by people who want it as cheap as possible and delivered as cheap as possible, then moan the driver is impatient and driving to fast. Today’s world. |

Maybe we need to promote "The Land Rover" driving position, and sit up, (um, something my Mum kept telling me) DAVE. |

'The Land Rover driving position' might be stretching it a little too much. My sister needs a periscope for her Evoque! The reason I bought the more practical Freelander, sick to death of all the other tall vehicles. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device! Its the FL2 'Command' driving position that I love, although over the years BF (before Freelander), I have always set my seat at its highest, and normally rearmost, in all the vehicles I have ever had, or driven. A good view, and keeping space around vehicle, whilst travelling, is fundamental to giving yourself the best chance of arriving at your destination safely. It is part of what is called 'Defensive Driving'. Once you have had a FL2, it is very hard to find another driving position as good. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011) FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015) Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History (Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?) |
