My dad passed his driving test in the TA (as it was called then) in the 1960's....he learnt to drive and got his full license in a 4 wheel Fox armoured car, with something like 8 forward and 6 reverse gears. He was allowed on public roads straight away |

Worked with a bloke who did much the same; trouble was he tended to drive his car as though he was still in the tank |

You would be surprised by the number of people captured by ANPR cameras these days. You will not hear of them as the majority of motoring offences are dealt with by a single justice system and the press are not present to report.

I know that you can be warned by letter, even if your insurance company has a computer/database problem, and you pass an ANPR..

My father in law who was born in 1927 never took a driving test. Some interesting historical stuff below.

When I did some volunteer driving for some children with special needs, I was allowed a 'grandads exemption' for a PSV license as long as I passed the compulsory medical and it was not paid work.

Over the last 16 years, I must have bought over 30 UK reg vehicles in the uk, taxed in the uk, and with the new keepers slip ( or new v5 ) in my name and (uk) address. I have driven them all to central france. I have left the UK from many different departure points including all the South cost ports and eurotunnel, via the Irish route, via Hull and Belgium. I have collected the cars from as far North as Glasgow.

Took me 3 months to get the logbook on my series 3 updated after an engine swap. Sent it in Sept , confirmed by phone they have received it at the end of November - got it back (incomplete) end of December. I now need to go through the process again. Jules |
