Speed limiters to be fitted

http://news.sky.com/story/1135815/eu-may-o...to-uk-cars Rolling Eyes

I occasionally break the speed limit and hit 71mph which is useful sometimes Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It won't happen, this will be the one thing that our Goverment fights, they rely on to much cash from speeding fines. The technology is out there to link all our speeds to GPS so we would never be able to speed, they did a trial on it in Leeds a few years back but nothing came of it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Impossible to put into force IMHO.
What about classic cars how do you justify butchering a £100k classic with modern electronic wizardry?

What we need is a government with conviction to put things into practice now for the good of the country instead of chasing voters come next election to maintain their own positions.

Won't happen in the near and not so near future, much better if they came up with restricting tractors to the fields where they can spread their muck all year round and stop holding up us caravanners Whistle

Put into practice the shooting on site of middle lane hogs, driving back from Scotland yesterday was dreadful, always the same type of car too, a supermini fully loaded with Mum at the wheel.
Cyclists need a little work too, traffic travelling at 60 mph up the A82, frequently and dangerously, had to slow to 5mph and wait for oncoming traffic to abate, to pass a cyclist, then 100 yards up the road another one, the cyclists should get off and let the traffic past or better still stick to cycle lanes, if there's no lane it means you can't go there Laughing

Oh boy that's poked a stick into a hornets nest Whistle

So the EU plan of having all new vehicles have silly fairy lights so they can be soon hasn't really helped I suppose. Rolling Eyes

Guess what... The thing is already implemented in your/our cars. Wink
In a matter of minutes, you can tell/program the engine ECU to limit the speed of the car at any value between 20 and 255 km/h (evidently the later values are unreachable).
In fact, when delivered to your dealer, it has a speed limit activated. In the PDI (pre delivery inspection) the dealer remove that limit along with other things...

Never happen.

The bus company I work for uses the greenroad Eco driver system which monitors everything from how long I'm idling to how sharp I brake and take corners. The manager can access every drivers profile and check our score, mines 4 and my idling 0% Very Happy . The only thing our system doesn't penalise us for is braking the speed limit, which it can do using GPS. The reason being the company relies on us creeping over the limit to keep the timetable running smoothly at times.

Imagine at rush hour everyone sticking to the speed limit, the place would be gridlock.

Ps I don't condone boy racer excessive speeds, I hold my hands up to creeping just over every now and then Embarassed 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I can't see other Europeans, especially the German motorists, going along with that! Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Laughing I concede, let nothing get in the way of the ingredients of a Cornish pasty. I noticed when last down there in June there was good agricultural land given over to fields and fields of solar panels Surprised

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

As these units will need GPS to determine the speed limit withinm the location you are driving and the ability to be updated remotely to ensure they are up to date with roadworks, new roads etc... I would say it was far more to do with tracking motorists every move than about speed limits. And then you are a tiny step away from road charges per mile driven on road type/area/time of day. Also being able to stop a car driving at all, or in certain areas or certain times of day. Total remote control for the authorities. How they rub their hands with glee.

Only its easier to get broad public support on stopping speeding than tracking drivers so thats where they will start. Then its easy from there once the devices are in the car. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
(Going) 2013 TD4 GS Auto - Santorini Black with black leather. Cold Climate, UK Lighting & Armrest Packs. Privacy Glass. LR Rubber Mats. Full size spare.
