auto flush

Thoughts please. Getting mixed messages about this. 2012 auto, 50,000 miles on the clock. Getting jolts from the box when changing up. Not as smooth as before. Tried the hard reset from the Evoque forum to no avail. Looking on the net, some say flush, others say not as it dissloges particles in the box and could make it worse. Again on the Evouqe site owners are saying do a dump and refill.

Just flushed mine at, 76000.
Improvement noticeable for smoother shift, and a lot quitter when held in 1st gear.
No brainer to maintain, fluid was quite discoloured.

I performed a dump and refill at 40K miles/5 years - noticeable improvement - smoother gear changes. Jules

Black and stinky... mine was completely cooked. Ended up flushing repeatedly ~15L over about 3 months before she was back to clear red. Huge improvement.

just read a bit more on the ewok website. A transmission specialist in Cannock (VPS) told the owner that he did a flush on freelander auto and ended up repairing the box as it had disturbed debris in the system. He carried out the dump method and charged £270. Apparantly took several hours to complete. ?

Had mine done at 112K, IIRC they just did a dump and fill, and the shifting improved noticeably. I'll replace it at 50K intervals now.

Whether you flush probably depends on how nasty it looks... if it's really bad I'd be afraid to flush it all at once, might be safer to drive it for 5K or so and dump and fill again with the oil change and repeat until the fluid looks better.

But changing the fluid in a box that hasn't been changed in a long time is never risk free. I wouldn't have waited as long as I did but I was too busy to manage the mx when I first owned the car so just used the dealer. Ooops.

Also the early years used a non-synth fluid... I'd be more concerned with crud from dino oil than from the later synth fluid.

Plenty of Scammers out there. Proves the point you need to change on a regular basis in order keep it free of crud build up.

Sounds dodgy - I dont know what in the gearbox could be repaired in only several hours.

It took me several hours to do a dump and re-fill and cost me the price of 10L of ATF (about £40) plus my time and effort. Jules

what is the thought of doing a dump and fill once a year say at the same time as engine oil change. since changing oil for the gear box looks easier then the engine, well just the engine oil filter bit really. GS Sd4 2012

Sory maybe i should have been clearer. It took several hours to do the fluid change. Not repair the gearbox.

Yes, thats a good idea - easy to do.

Just remember to undo the filler screw (it can be very tight) before you drain the ATF. Jules

And no matter how careful you are not to tighten it too much, it's always a pig of a job to take off again! Extender bars were a life saver on that.
