I can't for the life of me see any advantage to having this fitted, even if it could be. You need wheel slip to allow the Haldex and 4WD system to operate correctly, i.e. Provide power to the wheel(s) that need it the most. A LSD on a 4WD Haldex setup would simply confuse and override that, and render it in effect a normal car.

I agree with Southam, the FL2 relies on an electronic program work it's traction control. Any extra mechanical control will just confuse it, unless of course you reprogram it to include your new mechanical set up.

No, I don't (yet). A Saab forum would probably yield that information though? Freelander aside, the new Evoque (L551) has moved the game on further. On the rear axle, at each wheel is an all-new electronic Haldex-type clutch. Front PTU keeps the prop constantly turning, individual rear clutches engage where necessary once slippage is detected. It's a seamless system, and given the punishment I gave it recently, works very well. I guess it's just design evolving continuously. |

its always a bit scary looking when you see a modern electronically controlled AWD wheel spinning its front wheels until the systems reach their threshold and engage the rear wheels fully, but it works.

My understanding is that it isn't a Haldex system anymore, but something that they have developed themselves. It works on the same principle as the Borg-Warner setup though.

it was called active driveline in the latest Evoques and was an optional extra on most models IIRC

I can't help but feel that it's all going the wrong way and getting too complex (like the wading depth indicators I saw on one model) with even more to go wrong. Still I guess that the guy who is responsible for buying all of the Toyota pickup trucks for the Taliban and ISIS isn't in JLR's preferred market sector. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks for the thoughts. I can tell you with experience that the lsd worked wonders on the xjr. There was no need to reprogram anything. I will investigate more. Guy Pensa
