LANTRA training with NW4x4R in the FL2

I've recently completed a LANTRA off-road course with NW4x4R in the Freelander 2

More than enough mud to get it stuck, though lack of clearance rather than running out of traction was the problem

How much additional clearance do you think you will need to clear the last stretch?

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Izmir Blue

I'm surprised that as an ex 4X4 Responder the freelander
was expected to drive though such deep ruts on a test,
before I retired from SE4X4 response our training (assessed by BORDA instructors)
was based on vehicle capabilities, one vehicle getting stuck whilst responding
could lead to at least two others being diverted to assist that vehicle,
I will say our BBQ weekends were on the same site or at Mereworth Kent (think Mud)
where you could play and get stuck to your hearts content,

I suspect another 50mm would do it. The right hand sand of the track Is deeper than the left, and while the wheels just about stayed on the bottom, the mud here was very slippy/fine probably need to push 30mm into it.

It wasn't expected so much as I wanted to push the car and find the limits. And this was agreed with the training group before we set off, hence the strap was already on the car before I set off.

If anything this was confirmation of my own assessment. Having walked the course, I didn't expect the FL2 to get much past the bottom of the hill. But then it just kept going!

Since I got stuck, all FL2s and low clearance cars that use the course have jumped out of the ruts at the bottom of the hill and driven around the water trap. So it's been learning for everyone. And I now I know how hard to push it on the farm, straight to the tractor shed for me 😝

It's a great feeling when you get to respond
on a call out and can prove to the public that 4X4's are a tool
and not just used for school runs or posing.

I suspect you wouldn't have got that far without the tank guard given that it really helps the back end glide over things (although I have managed to bend mine in the past dropping it onto a rock which would otherwise have gone straight through the tank!)

Nice to see another FL2 on 4X4R duties - mine was sterling in the recent snows.
