I'm no mechanic, but your warning message doesn't seem to indicate a fuel problem.

Now to stop being a smart arse, did you use a different or unknown fuel source? How low was your fuel before filling? How many miles has your car done? ie how much fuel has gone through it? Do you use an algaecide?

Keeping a low fuel load for a long period can lead to condensation in the tank.
Not having fresh fuel can lead to algae growing in the tank.
Low fuel being replenished can stir up sediments.
An old filter can become blocked.

Well, that's in the old days at least.

Your car will have error codes to tell you (or someone with a code reader) what has gone wrong. These are complex machines with a huge number of sensors that work to shut down the vehicle if it is in danger of serious damage.

My guess is that it's only a lot of extended use of bad fuel that will add up to engine failure. Unless you're using someone like a service station I used to go to that was caught selling heating oil as diesel. That caused a serious problem for one poor truckie. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Sorry that pic was from about 6 months ago posted wrong one (the one that said restricted performance ect) I put £50 diesel in in the evening and then in the morning travelled for about 15 minutes and it happened same petrol st i always use. It starts and runs fine since but in restricted performance mode. And will shut down if you try to accelerate hard or go fast.

I have had restricted performance light twice (once with the engine management light on also).
First was split intercooler pipe
second was EGR valve Big Cry

Also could be fuel filter or even fuel cap not on correctly.
Hope this helps
Andy

Happens to me a lot - something about fuel authorisation.

I've had the fuel tank out, pumps and all sorts of investigations.

I try not to slam my foot on the loud pedal. If I forget now I just clear the code and keep going.

Not that the same thing happening to you, though. You need to get the fault code identified. MY11 SD4 SE Auto
