Installing new rear bumper and cutting PDC holes

Hello,

I am soon to start replacing the rear bumper of my 2010 Freelander 2. The new one is currently being sprayed. I am happy with the removal and installation of the bumper but I am a little unsure on how to cut the holes for the bumper. I have seen a "special hole cutting tool" nut is this really needed? its £220 for a hole cutter!! looking at the instruction could I not just drill a 28mm hole, not flat against the bumper but at a 45 degree angle?

I found this link on the forum which show the cutter just wondering if I can step 2 with the right size cutter and skid expensive step 3

Thank you

Yes you should be able to do that as long as you were reasonably handy with a drill! I would use a strip of wood to drill the angled hole first then tape it to the bumper where the cut is to be and use the wood as a guide. If you drilled very slow and steady you should be fine! Good luck! Thumbs Up

Well the guy painting does this as a job but never done a Freelander 2 before and doesn’t have the tool. He’s painting it for free so can’t complain. I’ve seen bumper cutters on eBay for £20 so may weld a 45 degree bracket onto that or grind it down. I will practice on the old bumper first and go from there.

I have a Bosch GRO 10.8V-LI Professional cordless rotary tool, great for making round holes at an angle & oval. I did a couple in aluminium brackets for the awning on the car.

Then smooth edges with a piece of wet & dry around a section of dowel (broom handle etc). Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
