Coronavirus Discussion/Advice/Assistance Thread

Following on from DISCO3/4 I thought I would start up a Coronavirus discussion/help thread.

On there we have separate threads and sections but for now let's see how we get on with a single place.

This thread is for general discussion about news & developments but please keep politics out of the mix.

Also please offer advice/tips/best practice or ask questions about what to do if unsure. But take care to only share confirmed good advice, not hearsay, viral Facebook posts etc. Such posts will be removed as they are likely to cause more harm than good.

Remember - for all medical concerns please consult the official GOV.UK pages: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

If you are in need of local assistance - either for yourself or for vulnerable relatives etc - then please ask.

Please don't flood it with offers of assistance, as finding who is where and can do what will end up being a mammoth task.

Post up details of what you need and where (ideally put the location in the subject), and I'm sure we as a community will do what we can to.

As a heads up - anyone who wants to order groceries on line at present Sainsburys are not accepting any new accounts to be set up, Tesco and Asda are letting you set up new accounts for home delivery (finding an available delivery slot is a different issue). MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

Just a tip for anyone thinking that they can visit Dorset beauty spots over the Bank Holiday. Don't bother, I live near Lulworth Cove and the place has had police road blocks all day and issuing apparently hundreds of £60 fines. This was the scene this morning and I went past on my bike and counted ten cars in this queue. There was another road block around the corner on the road to Durdle Door. I hear it's the same all over Dorset and there are unmarked cars out there too doing ANPR checks.

‘If you’re an Australian citizen, you’re not allowed to leave’

Naga Munchetty has been speaking to former Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer after reports the UK might be having an "Australian style" quarantine system for people arriving in the country.

He says Australian citizens need the permission of the government to leave the country so "in effect you can’t leave".

"The travel industry has really suffered… there are almost zero international tourists coming into Australia where normally there would be millions and millions.

"The [tourism] industry has been slightly compensated by so many Australians holidaying at home instead of going abroad, but in parts of Queensland and New South Wales, they have really suffered grievously in that industry."

I bought one of these inexpensive pulse oximeters. It appears to work well. In the early 80s when they first appeared in clinical use they cost thousands - now miniaturized and costing a few quid.

One of the features of Covid seems to be the severe hypoxia that can go unnoticed by the individual and may be a factor in people presenting late to hospital and in a critical state.

I hope neither my family nor I have need of it but it could be a useful early warning device and decider about when to go to hospital. Jules

Vaccinated today. No side effects yet but have suggested to Significant Other I should rest, read the paper and so on. Asked that she move the remote to the right hand side and use right-handled tea cups . . . . . just in case. Not sure she's fallen for it Wink

I have heard it said that a nice curry and a couple of beers are ideal for coping with any side effects brought on by the Covid vaccination Thumbs Up
