About to fix replacement rear no plate. Has anyone used double sided tape? What's the best thickness (plate screw inserts still on the tailgate). Appreciate any thoughts/advice.

I bought some heavy duty Velcro strips off fleabay a few years ago to reinforce the screws on my Forester. It was a personal plate so came off easily when I moved the plate to another car.

I got some double sided Sticky pads from Halfords, very strong you only get one shot at it to fix so make sure it’s Straight. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

I’d previously used tape and found the Velcro option proved just as adhesive, but allowed easier removal if the plate ever needed to be re-positioned either at the initial fixing or in my case when moved to another car

And how do you fixed/stick the two parts of the velcro on the number plate and on the car body? With glue, by chance? And if yes, which glue? Thanks!

With number plate theft so prevalent in the UK I would go for a fixing that is very difficult to remove without damaging the plate. Once your plate has been nicked you will get all manner of speeding and other notices. It might be inconvenient to fix the plate in this way but far less than the aggro of dealing with the cloning issue, often selling the car is the only option.

I agree Jimbo . The best fix is high strength adhesive pads . If someone wants to pinch the plate it will damage the backing . If you want to remove them without damage I’ve found sawingthem off with a length of mono or braid fishing line is a good way , takes a bit of time and care , but damage free . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I've got both front & rear plates in a mounting frame [screwed on in the original holes], so no need to drill the number plate.

High RonP how is the plate secured into the holder? Have you got the larger (deeper) rear plates?

Mine are standard sized plates and they just clip into the surrounding frame.

To remove the plates with sticky tape use a hairdryer starting at one end and pull it off gently
