United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Noise from engine bay area

Hi peeps. Bit of an odd one. Driving along and i thought there was a whirring noise so I panic, car is a 2011 freelander 2 HSE autobox sd4 . Almost sounds like a vibration. This got worse so i went under the car found 2 bolts missing in the sump guard but its not that and i found a broken exhaust hanger not that either. Sometimes in neutral i can force it to happen by revving the engine so I dont believe its transmission. Seems to happen more on accel and decel.. any ideas. I cant see anything that looks like its loose. I wonder if its a pulley or something. Hopefully not a torque converter eeeeeek . Car drives fine and changes gear fine and pulls like a train with no warning messages.

Possibly aux belt tensioner or alternator pulley. Have a look when its idling & see if the tensioner is jumping around. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Dave,
is this with the A/C on?
I had a whirring sound last year which rose and fell in line with the engine revs,
for me it required a replacement A/C pump.

Well they went in to replace the compressor but found low gas due to a condenser leak . Still expensive but not as bad as a compressor which now its got refrigerant and oil sounds a hell of a load better

Fingers crossed for you Dave,
this is the same as mine last year had the gas redone and it started again
after a few weeks, (pressure still good)
so I managed to find a guy who specialised in A/C
he monitored it over the next couple of weeks checking
pressure, ambient and output temperatures.
the only thing it could be in the end, was the compressor, I made the
decision and had a new compressor fitted, now over a year later all good. Thumbs Up
he did comment that in 19 years of working with A/Cs mine was only the second Freelander
he had in. DAVE.
