Peugeot Service?

I've got to get the cambelt changed on my daughters Peugeot 108. Had a look at doing it myself but it looks to be a nightmare. It's inside the engine & runs in oil, which I haven't seen before. Shocked

So can anyone recommend a reliable Peugeot workshop in the West Mids? Independent or dealership. Thumbs Up

Are you sure it's a belt? if it's internal and runs in oil it sounds like a chain, which normally lasts for the life of the engine.

Google says 1 litre has a chain and 1:2 litre is a belt.

1.2 ltr & yes it's definitely a belt that runs in oil as odd as that may sound.

Belt in Oil has been used on certain Ford engines for more than 10 years. There were lot of early problems when, if the belt starts to break up, the rubber particles block the oil strainer and pump leading to engine failure. More recently smaller more efficient engines have adopted the belt in oil system for reduced friction, noise, and space benefits.

I’m sure belts have been continuously developed for use in hot oil, but with such engines it’s vitally important not only to use the latest OEM spec belt but also to check the oil strainer and pump for particulates if the old belt is not pristine when it is taken off.

I’d tend to go to a main dealer for the belt to be changed. They should be more aware of the potential issues and might be more likely to chip in with the costs if the engine needs a flush?

Cheers Dennis. I've done a bit of previous reading up on this & that is exactly why I need this belt changing. No signs of break up yet as this is a very low milage car but it does have the older spec belt on it hence my question on recommended workshops in the West Mids. Thumbs Up

If it's low mileage then I think I'd stay with a main dealer to be sure of getting the latest spec belt and the chance to go back if any problems develop. I haven't used them myself but I've heard good things about Arbury Peugeot in Lichfield.

Interestingly, my 2019 Fiesta ST3 has a 3 cylinder 1.5L engine which has a BiO and requires a extraordinary 6.1 litres of 5w20 oil at the annual service. Jules
