John Craddock

Terrible service from John Craddock.

Lots of recent reviews about very slow delivery, poor service, no communications. Understand it's a difficult time for sourcing some supplies but lots of other suppliers managing fine.

My experience:
Ordered parts (caliper bolts, shoe fitting kit) 16th April.
E-mailed asking for an update morning of 29th April.
E-mailed again asking to cancel order evening of 30th April.
Received a reply to cancellation e-mail saying my parts were 'processing' 11th May.
Received parts 20th May.

Got my parts from LR spares (lrparts.net) within 3 working days in the middle of this.
Now i have to try and get Craddocks to accept a return.

Sorry to hear that.
I've been using JC for 25 years now. Apart from the occasional hiccup, they've served me well during that time.
Don't know what the staffing is like ATM . However, I've found that phoning , rather than emailing, gets a quicker response.

The chaps on the counter are generally very knowledgeable so I tend to pop over during the week if I need something only they have. Jules

Toolstation customer services took 3 emails and a month to reply to my request to return a faulty item. All good in the end just took a long time. Jules

Could be the online sales dept. having a specific problem.

Wasn't happy with them replying to a cancellation e-mail 12 days later with no impression of actually having read it, and still sending the goods.

After placing an order and paying, it took them a week to tell me the part had been superceded and I had to pay as much again online before they'd order the new one. I got a refund and went elsewhere. Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

So, I bought our Freelander 2 i6 SE right before New year, and now I placed an order of various spares and two sets of Alpaca floor mats at John Craddock Ltd. The mats were advertised at gbp 26,64 plus vat.
Right, I paid for that, and they would get back to me with a shipping cost.

Today I received an email from a Miss Tyler Crighton-Homer, claiming that the price of said mats are suddenly gbp 64 each, plus gbp 40,- for the shipping to me.

While I can accept the shipping, all right that's that, and fair, I am baffled to say the least, regarding a more than 100% increase in price on mats.

Just for good measure, I am on their webpage right now, and that price is NOT 64 gbp, but 26,64 plus vat.

I am sorry, but where I come from, Denmark, that is illegal business practice. Is that really legal in the UK? (before I answer them).

I am thoroughly dissapointed about the company John Craddock Ltd. I was otherwise quite satisfied with the whole afair, a real minus in my thoughts regarding dealing parts for Land Rover. I can tell one this, and that is in the 12 years I've dealt with Lotus and Lotus spare dealers, I've never ever some across such an "issue".

What is your take on this?

Kind regards,
Redfox.

The price on the website is the price you should be paying. They're can't up the price just because they feel like it. It comes under the distance selling rules, which are very strict, and exist protect the buyer. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Hi Nodge68,

Thank you for your reply.
How can I demonstrate this to John Craddock Ltd?
Is what they are doing illegal according to law?

Kind regards,
Redfox.

Although Ive had good service from JC in the past .
I recently had problems with their website indicating that parts were in-stock when in actual fact they were not and were not going to be any time soon.

Perhaps something is going wrong with their IT somewhere.

Going back to your mats - they should charge the price as stated on the website. Jules

If they have accepted your payment and your method of payment has been deducted from your account the the goods are yours, the shipping charges are a different contract, not withstanding the distance selling laws my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Thank you for your reply.

I have written a clear and explanatory message back to John Craddock Ltd, and demanded my goods being shipped to me when they have sent me a new link for payment of the 40gbp in shipping, with all goods at the prices they have advertised on their webpage and for which I have paid and they have deducted my account for.
I also have taken a photo of the price of the mats at the price mentioned by me, from their homepage.

If their price to them have gone up, they should have changed the advertised price on their webpage and after the sale to me, change it accordingly. That would be the right way to do it.

I will notify you here, on how it goes.
I will be positive and they should hopefully keep their end of the paid for deal.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

If a seller lists a price then they have two options, one is except your offer to buy at that price, two is they can legally refuse to sell at the advertised price. Common sense isn't very common.

Ah, so this leaves me as a buyer in a situation where a seller can advertise anything at a fantasy price, and then when the sale is done, and money drawn from the buyers bank account, in the hands of the seller, who can then decide to demand any other price he or she many fancy. As in my case for example.
More over, that will also le me as a buyer, in a total lack of confidence as to getting a refund of my money, and all of the hassle that comes with that.

Hmm... Not very confidence inspiring.
In Denmark at least, that practice is illegal.

Anyway, I'll report back here what happens in this case. Let's hope they will do the sale for the price they demanded and withdrew from my account.
Law is apparently not always clear and may be superseded by another law.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

You state that John Craddock Ltd have deducted your account, in that case the goods are yours, you now pay the £40 to complete the transaction, if you don't pay the shipping cost you can't receive them and therefore a stalemate, unless you can get some one to collect them with your authorisation. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
