I know i'm not very clever but didn't realise what an idiot I am.
replacing the bonnet catches and thought after doing the nearside one that I will see if it works, well what could go wrong! now i can't get it open again, because the offside isn't fitted the cable won't release, tried disconnecting the handle to see if I could pull the cable further but no joy, now got the car on ramps but can't see away of getting to the cable, read in a search that somebody removed a headlight to get to it but not sure how.
Any help appreciated, but please don't use long words because i'm an idiot. Common sense isn't very common.

I cant see how you can remove the headlights without opening the bonnet first - each has two bolts accessed from above Jules

I found this for freelander 2, not sure that I understand it, but it looks complicated.

I've had a look at mine and I can't see any real weak points. All the construction screws are mounted out of reach under bonnet lid.

It looks as if you can get to the front of the catches, but that would require the plastic grill to be damaged.

If your internet search is unsuccessful, can you wait until a landrover garage is open, it may be cheaper than damaging car. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Just a thought I haven't been out to look at mine, however, if you remove the front wheels and the trim between the wheel arch and engine bay (two 10mm plastic nuts and two screws under the front bumper) can you gain any easier access to the catches from there.

Saw this on YouTube it's a Range Rover but same principle. May be of help.

That looks fiddly but may well work.

As there was no accompanying voice over, that YouTube clip had the feel of watching someone breaking into a car - but then I suppose that's what he was doing

I can't see the screwdriver through the grill working. The catches are on the outer edges of grill and are shielded by the internal plastic framing.
The inner side of the catch is shielded by the metal surround of the cooling air opening.

Destroying the grill may be the only way in, without bending the bonnet.

I am sure a knowledgeable LR garage must have a method of dealing with a broken lid mechanism.

Stick a screwdriver through here, you will feel a U shape cutout in the steel then you should feel a notch in the mechanism or feel the underside of the connecting part of the bonnet & leaver it up. Put a cloth on the grill so you don't scratch it. I haven't actually tried it myself.
