Not possible..there is no access through the grill into the latches (without some butchery)! Just checked on mine, the options look really limited |

Yes, I suspect it is possible on the later facelift models. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Would it help if you removed all the lower bumper fixings and side fixings then pulled the bumper forwards a bit and maybe get your hand or a tool in to open the latch? |

On my last car, I ended up butchering the grill as the only way in, so I then added a back-up pull cable that I left tucked up in the under tray, just in case. Always intended doing the same to the FL2 but never yet got round to it, so thanks for the reminder! |

As you can see it got me about 15mm gap, out with the recuperating saw and I managed too cut through the 'D' shaped catch and hay presto

Now just need to get the cut piece out and get them welded back togather again.

But as your lower photo shows ........ the 'D' ring is welded to the bonnet frame ?
