Australians would be at a loss with a bigger number like 2. Probably why our government chose 1.5

A study years ago asking people how many dollars 10% GST (VAT) is on $100. A high percentage of people came up with all sorts of figures! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

'You might have heard that coronavirus can survive in the air for up to three hours.

But what does this actually mean, and how likely is it that you could catch it in the air?'

We live at the edge of Sydney Harbour & have never before seen so many people walking, jogging, running & bikes (not allowed on this path). So we walk around the boring streets to avoid people. Where we can cross the road. Stay up wind if possible.

Common sense, just keep away from people & walk somewhere else.

It's unlikely that 2 meters are ever likely to be the safe distance apart, there are not many meters larger than 30cm in size be them square, oblong or round, however 2 metres may well be a safe distance. That is the problem with the decimal system, now 6feet 6inches which a touch less than 2 metres cannot be confused, though I'm sure someone will mistake feet for feat, another vagary of the English spelling and meaning, but letting in foreign measurements is sure to confuse Rolling with laughter

We should stick to metres. That feet, toes and inches system is confusing as is (or was) the rods, poles and perches not to mention chains. So is a rod the length of a fishing rod or a surveyors tool and how big is a pole? Is a perch a fish or somewhere for the budgie to sit? I know how long my bike chain is and that is measured in links.

I was a Brit who first started all this 'Metric' stuff ...

An English bishop, John Wilkins, (1614-1672) invented the system part of the decimal metric system when he published a book with a plan for a 'universal measure' in 1668.

At the end of the previous century I was one of a team that taught non-UK students, some with virtually no English language skills beyond "Where is the railway station", in a Summer School. They were always fascinated by our Imperial measurements once the origin of the measures were explained to them, and found them logical and easy to understand. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. It would be interesting to know what tha daily death averge numbers were before Covid19 and what the increase is taking in to account Covid19, there may well be deaths atributed to the virus that would have occurred within a day or so without the virus due to other extra infections. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

This has been discussed earlier in this thread about 4 pages back. Despite all the talk about Covid deaths and attributing Covid to people with multiple illnesses dying in care homes or at home the only thing that you really need to count is the excess deaths above the average for the time of year. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

It may well have been discussed but we still don't know, perhaps those figures will come out when it all dies down proving it wasn't that bad and the goverment did well, while they are high the death rate serves to enforce the lock down and distancing. With situations like this promulgation of figures are targeted to produce the desired public response, this government has the majority to weather the media and opposition criticism. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

People staying at home will result in more deaths from home and D.I.Y. accidents that may not balance out the reduction in traffic and industrial death. So we don't know. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!
