I think you can remove the pump without removing the flange on the Gen 3 - not tried it myself (have a Gen 4).

You need to stop the flange rotating when undoing the central nut. Its in the JLR workshop manual. Jules

I've got an early Gen 4 with the thinner flange (2010) model. This maybe the same thickness and type of flange as the Gen 3 flange. If it is, then I always remove mine this way: With the Haldex in a vice, screw 2 of the propshaft/flange bolts into the flange (They need to be close so that the central nut is not obstructed). You can then put your socket/breaker on the nut and a long bar/jack handle between the 2 bolts in the flange. If you align it correctly can can pull the 2 bars together to crack off the flange nut. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

after taking the 6 bolts holding the flange and the prop, do I need to screw extra bolt at the back of the flange to remove the prop from the flange? Or the prop will just pull out after taking the 6 bolts?

Are there extra bolts/brackets at the back of the flange in order to remove the prop?

My freelander is 2008. Haldex Gen 3.

Thank you.

I also have a Gen 3 Haldex, 2007.
Looking at the installation today and reading lots of other posts it looks like the whole unit must be removed to remove the pump. Although good access there is not enough room to withdraw the pump with it in situ.
If anyone has successfully removed the gen 3 pump with the Haldex unit still fitted please advise.
Thanks Brgds

Nope, 2008 gen 3 haldex and cannot remove the pump in situ.....simply not enough clearance.

As MotionInc has stated it is not possible & you will need to remove the flange to get the gen 3 pump off. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

My freelander is 2008. Haldex Gen 3.

Thank you.

Remove 6 bolts and prop shall come off with a decent whack on its side with a plastic hammer or with the aid of a chisel on its edge.

You have to fix the flange with a suitable tooling or a wise to remove its center nut. That one is torqued pretty good. Use Loctite 243 (Thread locker) and correct torque when putting this one back on.

Yes, the flange have to come of to access the pump and filter on Gen.3
