It's a useless function down under in the country. Most people when they fill up the car run around & squeegee the windscreen with the supplied facilities at every petrol station, & the headlights as we do, & taillights at the same time as it only takes a few more seconds. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Weird! My GS(e) is on a 59 plate, which I believe means it’s Model Year 2010. The headlamp washing works in all light modes on mine - although I agree with lightwater that it is not the most effective system! I do have the CCF set to ‘Scandinavian’ lights always on, but the dash still responds to ambient light as it would if the headlights were on Auto. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Again, interesting - I'm not sure how the spec sheet played out on the facelift models as clearly auto lights became an option on the GS at that point, whereas prior it was standard at that spec level? And to separate it out from auto wipers seems odd given they share the same sensor, wiring and windscreen requirement.

Going to call up the local independent specialist today and see if they can do coding etc and then go from there re getting the upgraded stalk.

Also see why the second smart key we have will only open the car but not start it whilst I'm in there. Rolling Eyes

This issue finally got to the top of my to-do list today.

There was a generic lost communication error to the rain sensor which I guessed was related.

Previous owner had removed F1

So it works as designed now, whether I take the fuse out again as I’ve got used to it is another thing but at least I know what it was.

2014 GS.
Heated leather, no heated screen, auto wipers or auto headlights. No front fogs either but retrofitted them. WHY do all cars not come with heated windscreens? My 2004 Discovery had it but a 10 years newer product from the same manufacturer doesn't? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

2007 GS - auto lights, fog lights, auto wiper. No heated screen or seats. Looks like newer models had an economy drive on the basic level, with purchasers from new having to shell out for the extras.

Possibly?
Quite happy to sacrifice auto lights and wipers for heated leather seats though. Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Not wanting to raise a old thread but did anyone get to the point of doing this upgrade? My 2012 GS became too broken to repair, so went for a 2013 GS with heated leather seats..and I was also shocked at the lack of auto-lights & auto-wipers, as other have suggested I thought this would be standard?

Look forward to hear if anyone was able to add this in later on.. For Sale: 2012 Freelander 2 GS (https://www.freel2.com/forum/post431941.html)

Have never heard anything further on the subject, I certainly never bothered but not a fan of auto lights and wipers, perfectly happy to turn them on and off as I want, not when the car thinks I want them.

How can a 2012 Freelander 2 be so broken it's only worth scrapping? Shocked

Because a HFS costs 3 X as much as a standard screen.
I actually won't by an Land Rover that doesn't have a heated screen, as it's the most useful option available.

I was thinking the same.. turbo and clutch needs replacing..coming in at £3,200~ and as its at 200,000 miles, I don't know how much longer it would be affordable to repair..

Main thing is, even with things broken, the wife still wanted to get another one - so I've got to take that win!

I upgraded a few things on it so will be looking to sell some parts, but it will be a shame to see it scrapped..any ideas who would take it to repair? For Sale: 2012 Freelander 2 GS (https://www.freel2.com/forum/post431941.html)
