Engine oil query

Just purchased 1litre of Castrol 5W-30 from Eurocarparts.
They have delivered a 1litre of Castrol 5W-30 for Stop-Start.
This is purely for top up purposes.
Will this be ok for 2.2 diesel?

If the oil meets or exceeds the specifications listed in your owners manual then it will be OK.

The main difference is whether you have a DPF or not - they require different oils.

From your pic it appears to be an A3 oil (its a bit blurred though). My 2014 SD4 requires a C1 oil.

FWIW I have all my lubricants delivered from Smith and Allan

Be careful Euro car farts and Halfords list what you have Castrol 5w 30w A5 as being the correct oil for 2.2 FL2 which strictly speaking is incorrect should be a C1 Oil

The oil I have been given is an A5 oil.
Is it best to return it for a C1 grade.
Only bought it for occasional top ups.
Engine has 125 k miles and I have to top up to the mark occasionally.
I have used about half a litre since last change 8000 miles ago. Jim A

If your FL2 does not have a DPF then its probably OK for top ups as A5 has more viscosity but is not a low SAPS oil ,
However if you do have a DPF then its not advisable to use it, Check your handbook see what it recommends?

On a Freelander 2 the 8th character of the vin will tell you if it had a dpf fitted when first built in the factory. If the 8th character is C or E then it has a dpf. The Freelander 2 was always available with a dpf from the beginning in the UK, but it was optional in early years (at extra cost). Most FL2 diesel markets operated on similar rules but not all. On the MY10 (model year 2010) onwards they fitted them as standard in the UK because they were forced to because of emission rules. Surprisingly the UK was late to enforce dpf's being fitted as standard. Some countries demanded they were fitted as standard sooner while others didn't bother. Yer would think the UK would have been one of the first to demand it as standard with the constant talk of air pollution. 2013 FL2 XS.

Thank you Rommel,

8th letter on VIN is a B. so, no DPF
On container ford spec is 913,
As i will be using small amounts should be ok.
On a side note against your name.
My old father in law was RASC after Alamein. On the push west he abandoned his QL Bedford and took over an MAN abandoned by the Afrika Corp. Had it all the way to Tunisia. Always maintained "best lorry i ever drove."
Thanks for your help and guidance. Jim A

Thread Hijack

On a Subaru forum I was on a post popped up absolutely slagging a dealer for terrible service practices.

Wanted to return his car with 6 litres of HIS oil and force the dealer to do another oil change.

Claimed the dealer had used MAGNETIC oil which would surely destroy his engine.

Not the brightest spark. MY11 SD4 SE Auto
