Don’t go there. I have a set of Whitworth taps and dies. If you are working with lead the pitch angle and pitch are better suited than all this new fangled metric stuff.

The "swarf" is generally not from the aluminum housing but the internal gearing, bearings, etc. that are inside of the aluminum case. A magnet on the fill or drain plug (if you installed one) will get that pesky "swarf". |

That's exactly what I did. I drilled the hole M6, so I could enlarge it later if needed. I added a micro magnet to the end of the bolt.
