Don’t go there. I have a set of Whitworth taps and dies. If you are working with lead the pitch angle and pitch are better suited than all this new fangled metric stuff.

I assume Nodge meant that he drilled the drain plug hole when the diff was being rebuilt and removed the swarf when the housing was still apart. Or I could be wrong. Jules

The "swarf" is generally not from the aluminum housing but the internal gearing, bearings, etc. that are inside of the aluminum case. A magnet on the fill or drain plug (if you installed one) will get that pesky "swarf".

That's exactly what I did. Thumbs Up
I drilled the hole M6, so I could enlarge it later if needed. I added a micro magnet to the end of the bolt.
